Just a few days away from the first big weekend in Cuchara!
Now let me clarify… a big weekend in Cuchara still means no traffic and no crowds like other areas!!
Why not escape the city and relax in the beautiful, undiscovered part of Colorado?

Gems like Shooting Star Meadow are still available for the holiday weekend!
The modern twist on a pan-abode log cabin is the perfect place to get the best of both worlds with cozy furnishings and that mountain feel.
The large yard walks right up to the Cuchara River or stay on the deck and watch the stars in front of the propane fire pit.

Drop into the village for some gifts and Mini Golf at The Bears Den…. or head down to Grandote Golf Course.

All of our cabins have gas grills and full kitchens… but if you prefer not to cook, swing by the Dog Bar and Grill. You gotta try the BBQ Nachos!…. or check out the Cuchara Yacht Club (I love their Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich and I’m not a fan of chicken. That tells you something)

For everyone that loves exploring with your toys!

Thanks to the work of our facilities and patrol rangers, Great Sand Dunes was able to open the Medano Primitive Road on May 19th, 2025, all the way up to the Medano Pass. The road is currently open on Forest Road 559 so that four-wheel drive vehicles can cross over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains into the Wet Mountain Valley and San Isabel National Forest from Great Sand Dunes.

All vehicles need to be 4WD High Clearance with a 4L setting on the transfer case to cross safely. Side-by-sides, UTVs, and ATVs are prohibited west of Medano Pass within all areas of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
