ICYMI: Allegany Central Caboose No. 1736 is back on its home rails for Maryland Railfest 2026, thanks to a special lease with Great Scenic Railway Journeys.

No. 1736 was one of the first pieces of equipment to arrive in Cumberland in the early 1990s, and now you have the chance to step aboard this piece of Western Maryland Scenic Railroad history.

You can ride inside No. 1736 on the Ridgeley Rocket during Maryland Railfest. All caboose tickets are available on a first-come, first-served walk-up basis, so arrive early to reserve your seats!

Ridgeley Shop Tours are also limited, with spots still available.

Sunset on the Mountain on September 19 will be anything but ordinary, with WMSR 501 leading the way.

For one night only, this train combines our Sunset on the Mountain experience with the Fireball Photo Experience, creating a one-of-a-kind evening on the railroad.

As we climb the mountain toward Frostburg, Chris Blaney will provide live acoustic music as the sun sets over the Alleghenies. On the return trip to Cumberland, photographers will have the opportunity to step off the train at specially staged night photo scenes created by Railfan & Railroad Magazine.

We’re just under three weeks away from Maryland Railfest 2026! No. 501 is ready to roll, and so are we.

Tickets for our Fireball Photo Experience are still available. This year, the event is taking to the rails as a moving photo experience, traveling to Frostburg at sunset before capturing night photo scenes along our 16-mile line.

Looking to ride the Allegany Central Caboose No. 1736? Walk-up tickets will be available exclusively in person during Railfest.
