Feature: George Washington’s Headquarters

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, stand in the place where a young George Washington began shaping the leadership that would later define a nation.

Located in downtown Cumberland’s Riverside Park, George Washington’s Headquarters marks the site of Washington’s first military command during the French & Indian War. Originally constructed by General Edward Braddock’s men between 1755–1758, the cabin later welcomed Washington once again in 1794 while reviewing troops during the Whiskey Rebellion as Commander in Chief.

Today, the historic site offers visitors a glimpse into the early chapters of America’s story and Cumberland’s important role on the frontier.
