Spirit is no longer flying in the spirit of travel.

Spirit Airlines announced early Saturday morning that it was ceasing operations after the budget carrier failed to secure a $500 million federal bailout.

"All Spirit flights have been cancelled, and Spirit Guests should not go to the airport,” the airline said, adding that it would automatically process refunds for any flight that was purchased through the airline with a credit or debit card.

The Florida-based airline, which has filed twice for bankruptcy since 2024, recently faced surging costs in jet fuel due to the Iran war.

Travel Friends stay in the know this summer!

•United Airlines will require all domestic passengers to check in for their flight at least 45 minutes before departure. The change from 30 minutes, which impacts those traveling without checked luggage, takes effect on June 3. Nonetheless, mobile boarding passes aren't always accepted and travelers should take the change seriously as failing to meet the new requirement could result in being denied boarding privileges.

•With the busy summer travel season underway, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is warning globetrotters about the dangers of using USB chargers at airports.
According to a Facebook post from TSA, travelers should avoid charging electronic devices via the USB ports that are now commonplace at airports around the country and the world because of the potential malware the ports may contain.

•Southwest Airlines will begin charging for checked bags on flights booked from Wednesday, May 28. While Rapid Rewards loyalty program members who are A-List tier, Southwest credit card holders and passengers flying business fare will continue to receive two free checked bags, others will be charged $35 for their first checked item and $45 for the second. A third piece of checked luggage will cost $150.
