Everyone defaults to Bali or Tulum when a group needs a reset. The U.S. has retreats that do the job just as well, most of them within an hour of a major airport.

The Lodge at Woodloch in the Poconos runs more than 50 classes a day and covers everything in one all-inclusive rate, so nobody's splitting off to find their own thing.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain outside Phoenix builds daily group wellness classes into the schedule before the day opens up into individual treatments. Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes covers the full range, yoga and Pilates for the group that wants to rest, cliffside hiking and their "Nature's Gym" boot camp for the ones who don't.

If I had to pick the one that solves the actual logistics of a group trip, it's Montage Deer Valley. Enough treatment rooms that everyone can book the same afternoon, no waiting around while half your group is still at the spa.

Most people plan a beach trip around the same five towns every summer. I'd rather show you the ones that don't make every "best beaches" list.

This one works three ways. Head up the Northeast coast for Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Cape Cod, think Chatham Bars Inn and the Winnetu Oceanside Resort. Go south for a stretch that runs from Charleston through Kiawah Island, 30A, Naples, Palm Beach, and Key West, six different vibes on one coastline. Or head west to Malibu, Montecito, and Cannon Beach, where the Pacific brings a different kind of beach day entirely.

If you make me pick one to talk you into first, it's Cannon Beach. Everyone flies straight past it for Malibu and misses the better beach.

Sri Lanka fits ancient cave temples, leopard safaris, tea country, and beaches where blue whales pass offshore, all into an island roughly the size of West Virginia.

Base yourself at Wild Coast Tented Lodge if leopard sightings top your list. The cocoon-shaped suites sit right on the edge of Yala National Park, and the infinity pool overlooks a watering hole that keeps drawing wildlife after the game drives end. Prefer history over safari? Amangalla puts you inside the walls of Galle Fort, in a 17th-century building that used to be the Dutch governor's guesthouse.

If you only add one thing beyond the obvious stops, make it the train from Kandy to Ella. Six hours through tea estates, mountain tunnels, and the nine-arch bridge, and it's the kind of travel day people remember more than the destinations on either end.

Five days gives you a focused introduction. Seven to ten lets you actually move between the coast, the Cultural Triangle, and the hill country without rushing.

Here's exactly what five days in Montenegro looks like when it's done right.

Land in Kotor, settle into a waterfront hotel, and start with dinner at Restaurant Conte or Verige65 that first night. Day two is the one to build the whole trip around: a private boat tour through the Bay of Kotor, a stop at Our Lady of the Rocks, and a long seafood lunch in Perast before cruising back for dinner in Kotor Old Town. From there it's the Serpentine Road up to Lovćen National Park and Cetinje, then south along the coast to Budva and Sveti Stefan for a final night of fresh seafood and sunset views over the Adriatic.

Hotels on this route range from One&Only Portonovi's polish to Aman Sveti Stefan's fortified island setting, so the trip scales whether you want understated or full-send luxury.

This is one version. Five days is enough to get the shape of Montenegro, a week gives you room to slow down.

Montenegro takes a minute to find on a map. It doesn't take long to get under your skin.

The country's barely six hours across, but it fits an Adriatic coastline of walled medieval towns, a karst interior that drops into river canyons, and a mountain north where villages still run on their own schedule. Stay at One&Only Portonovi if you want Montenegro's most polished resort, or SIRO Boka Palace in Tivat if performance recovery (cold plunge, infrared sauna) matters as much as the view. The Chedi Lustica Bay works if you'd rather be based on a quieter peninsula with your own marina and beach.

If I had to talk you into one stop, it's Perast. Book a night even if you're staying elsewhere on the bay. The town is car-free, the palazzos are baroque, and dinner at Restaurant Conte looks out over Our Lady of the Rocks.

Three to four days covers the highlights. A full week lets you add Durmitor National Park and its 18 glacial lakes, or pair the trip with a few days in Croatia.

Montenegro's only been independent since 2006, and it still feels like Europe before it got fully discovered.
