In a developing story, a man has been arrested in connection with a recent fatal shooting. The Danville Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident. Separately, a man has also been arrested for allegedly making threats against the Danville Area Humane Society. In another case, two police officers and a civilian were injured after being attacked by canines during a domestic dispute.

Breaking: Lee Vogler's family releases statement.

Recap:

Danville Councilman Lee Vogler Set on Fire in Shocking Attack 🚨

DANVILLE, VA – July 30, 2025 — A horrifying act of violence rocked our community when Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was brutally attacked and set on fire at his workplace at Showcase Magazine.

The attacker, 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes, reportedly stormed into the office, doused Vogler with a flammable liquid, and intentionally set him on fire as he tried to escape. Witnesses were left shaken. Vogler, 38, was airlifted to a North Carolina burn unit and is in serious condition.

💬 From Lee's wife, Blair Vogler:

> “Lee is strong, and he has an unbreakable spirit. We know he will fight through this… Please continue praying for his recovery and for our family during this incredibly challenging time.”

Authorities say the attack stemmed from a personal dispute and was not related to Vogler’s political role. The suspect has confessed and is facing attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding charges. He is currently in Danville City Jail without bond.

Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones said, “The city council is hurting.”
