I still run every yes through the same gut check, whether it’s a brand new client or one I’ve had for years.

I’ve seen what happens when I skip this step, and it’s not the client’s fault. I’ve turned down potential clients and existing ones when I follow my gut. If the driving factor is the money, you probably didn’t follow your gut. If it’s the job, you did, and mine was for the job, once it was for managing name badges. But I’ve done both, and had a client go rogue and double my work.

You get hired to plan a smooth event, and it runs well. The client’s happy with the venue, the set-up, how it looks.

But they’re judging it on whether it worked, and whether the right people were in the room.

Time blocking sounds great until your day pivots 15 times before lunch.

You make the list, block the time, and fully intend to stick to it. Then a client calls, a vendor needs an answer, something changes, and suddenly the plan is gone and it isn’t even 11 AM.

You didn’t fail at time blocking. It might just not be the system your brain or your event business needs.

Productivity isn’t about forcing yourself into someone else’s system. It’s about finding one that works in the reality of your day.

Said every event planner. We have good intentions of recording and photographing our work.

You can plan and plan but once you’re onsite, it’s go time and that includes all the unexpected things that pop up. Instacart becomes your lifesaver. Coffee is your best friend. Your Dymo needs to be rebooted after every onsite badge gets printed.

Chaos happened, barely filmed anything, but the event was great.

Event planners, tell me I’m not the only one.

The reel was the polite version. Here’s the unfiltered one.

I don’t mind the facility fee. I mind paying for a stroller program at a meeting where everyone is in the meeting.

Give me a menu. I’ll pick enhanced Wi-Fi, coffee credits, parking, and late checkout, and I’ll pay it with a smile. But a stroller program at a sales kickoff? At least let us race them in the foyer so we’re getting something for our money.
