Hard to beat a day like this on Daufuskie…

Calm water, a light breeze, and that wide-open Lowcountry sky putting on a show. Boats rocking easy at the dock, Spanish moss swaying overhead—this is what it’s all about.

Whether you’re headed out fishing, cruising the creeks, or just making your way over by boat, it doesn’t get much better than this.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out here…days like this one, would be the day. 🌿🌊

Private water taxis from Savannah, Georgia to Daufuskie available daily. Text or call 843-505-7563 to schedule your trip to paradise.

A few examples of the cool finds from last week’s trips 🦈

These four teeth came out of the mud and sand, including three classic sand tiger shark teeth — shorter, thicker, and built for grabbing and holding onto prey — and one partial megalodon tooth, a broken fragment from one of the largest predators to ever live.

The sand tiger sharks are still around today, but the megalodon is extinct, making that piece a direct connection to a very different ocean.

All of these teeth are millions of years old, likely from the Miocene epoch (around 3–30 million years ago), back when this entire area was underwater.

Same river. Same marsh. Completely different world.

That’s the magic of being out here… you never know what piece of the past you’re about to pick up.

Who’s coming out next? 🦈

Another great day out on the water with Ivey leading the charge and a full crew of young adventurers ready to hunt for shark teeth.

We had a fun mix today with Ivey and her friends, plus Owen and his buddy, all diving into the search along the shoreline. It didn’t take long before the first finds started turning up—and from there, it was game on.

That moment when a kid finds their first shark tooth never gets old. You can see the excitement instantly turn into focus as they start scanning every shell bed and sandy patch for the next one.

And of course… the girls made a mandatory stop at Pluff Mud Island. What started as “just one slide” turned into full send mode—laughing, slipping, covered head to toe in pluff mud like it’s a badge of honor.

Days like this are what it’s all about—getting kids outside, exploring, getting a little dirty, and connecting with a piece of history that’s been waiting out there for thousands of years.

Another successful Shark Tooth Adventure in the books. 🦈

The last of our non-sharktooth finds from last weeks epic Sharktooth Adventure…

At first glance, this one had us scratching our heads. It looks, feels and even sounds like porcelain—almost like part of an old doll or figurine. We’ve come across porcelain doll pieces out here before, so it wouldn’t be the first time we discovered something like this washed up along these shores.

But this piece feels a little different… the shape, the wear, the way it broke—it’s got us wondering.

Could it be part of a doll? A decorative figurine? Something else entirely?

That’s the fun of this place—you never know what piece of history is going to turn up in the sand.

Alright, y’all… what do you think this is?

The second find on our epic treasure hunt has some significant historical importance to us—and a little Daufuskie history baked into it…

Dug up this vintage “Paul Jones Whiskey” flask, complete with the embossed face of Revolutionary War naval legend John Paul Jones staring right back at you.

This style bottle dates to roughly the 1920s–1940s and was built as a pocket flask—flat, durable, and easy to carry. Right in that Prohibition-to-post-Prohibition window when folks were moving all kinds of goods up and down these waters.

Back then, Daufuskie had its own kind of hustle going—“scrap iron” runs where locals would collect and move metal, materials, and whatever else could be traded or sold along the coast. Boats were constantly coming and going… and you can bet they weren’t always empty-handed on the way back.

It’s not hard to picture this bottle riding along on one of those runs—tucked in a jacket, passed around on deck, or left behind after a long day working the tides.

The heavy saltwater wear and frosting tell the rest of the story… this thing’s been out here a long time, just waiting for the river to give it back.

Stumbled across a piece of historic American maritime history yesterday on a truly amazing treasure hunting adventure with some awesome repeat guests… this was just ONE of the amazing artifacts we found… more to come…

This button is from the Ocean Steamship Company of Savannah, a major coastal shipping line from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Their steamships ran right through these waters, moving cargo, mail, and passengers up and down the East Coast.

The backmark shows it was made by Scovill Manufacturing out of Waterbury, Connecticut and sold through Wood & Hyde in New York, putting this piece somewhere in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

This button would’ve been worn on a sailor’s dress coat… possibly on a ship moving through these same coastal waters over 100 years ago.

At some point it popped loose, got lost, and the tides took over. Now here it is again—right back in the Lowcountry mud.

That’s the wild part… this isn’t just an object, it’s a direct connection to someone who lived and worked on the water long before us.

We want to thank everyone who called, texted and emailed us about charters over the last week, for your patience. It took us a little longer to respond than usual, and if we missed anyone's inquiries, please shoot us a text or give us a call at 843-505-7563 and we will get back to you immediately.

As most of you know by now, Dickie Phelps was a close friend and in many ways a second father to me. When his wife Dee called to ask me if Dickie had stayed the night with us, because he didn't make it home the night before, and was missing, everything else took a back seat to finding him.

I want to thank everyone who helped us look for him and eventually find him. Without that assistance from the D.I Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard (who arrived minutes after we asked for assistance), the Beaufort County Sherifs Office, SC DNR, the County Dive Team and all of Dickie's friends who showed up to help, I'm not sure we would have ever been able to bring closure to his family, friends and this one-of-a-kind island community, we call home.

I also want to thank everyone who has chipped in to support Dee and the family during this difficult time. The outpouring of support for the Phelps, solidified for my family, that Daufuskie isn't a place that talks about community, it is the type of community that so many of us spend our lives trying to find.

For anyone who would like to contribute to Dickie's family, the link to the Go Fund Me page is below.

We are back to business as usual, although nothing will be normal around here without Dickie.

Many of you know our dear friends are walking through something unimaginable… Adam Grogg needs your support for Support for Dickie’s Family During This Crisis

First Shark Tooth Adventure of the 2026 season is in the books — and Guide Ivey was back on duty thanks to winter break.

She picked up right where she left off… walking the tide line, spotting teeth, and helping others experience the thrill of the hunt. Watching her out there never gets old.

Season is one trip in, and we’re officially back. 🦈

🎄🍹 Christmas on Daufuskie, Pirate-Style! 🍹🎄

If you’re spending the Holiday on Daufuskie and looking for the true spirit of Christmas on the island, come on out and show some love to our favorite drink slinger, Jamie!

He’ll be holding it down at Freeport, Daufuskie’s favorite drinking hole, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, opening at noon and pouring strong until we’re all singing Christmas carols wildly out of tune.

Skip the silent nights and join Jamie, and the rest of the island community, for cold drinks, good laughs, and island-style holiday cheer. 🎅🏴‍☠️

Support your local pirate, raise a glass, and let’s make some Christmas memories—Daufuskie style. 🍻

See y’all at Freeport!
