Front beach smack down! Got Mr. Harold and his son Elias out on the beach yesterday for a morning of fishing. These fellas are from New Jersey and do a good bit of fluke and striped bass beach fishing back home, Mr. Harold even makes his own 3D printed lures that were pretty sick looking in the photos he shared with me. We got out on the beach and immediately found some action and proceeded to catch fish really well and consistently until around 8-8:30. We caught several Release Over 20 fish, Riley Ludlam was putting in some work and caught our biggest of the day and Joey Dombroski tagged along to get in on the action and snag a few photos. Absolutely incredible work when he comes along and snaps some pictures, major blessing for me and the clients! If you need some photo work be sure to contact Joey. As the bite tapered off we floundered around for the last hour and a half and it was a really tough grind. After we’d fished five or six different flounder areas we called it quits and beat the heat back to the house with a few meals in the box for the folks or enjoy fresh or take back to Jersey!

The bite is really special lately and this year in general has been some of the best beach fishing I’ve ever been a part of. If you’re interested in booking a surf fishing charter or a wade fishing trip then give me a call at 251-623-4205 or check out the website linked in my bio!

Another guide for hire in the books. Took out a new local client Clint Flowers of National Land Realty - Gulf Coast Office, his boy Mason and his friend Taylor out to see if we could chase some fish. We got on a quality Speckled Trout bite and the boys both said it was the biggest trout they’d ever been on and it was special to watch this next generation have fun catching these speckled fish that I love so much. We were able to put some fish in the box for a couple meals as well as able to pass on the Release Over 20 initiative to these young guys, hopefully encouraging these up and coming fisherman to let some fish go so that our fishery can be better in the future! Look forward to taking these guys again and showing them a good time on the water.

It’s been really fun putting my Captains license to work and passing on some of the knowledge of our fishery that’s been shared with me. Hopefully these folks walk away with smiles on their faces from catching fish and knowledge/learned skills to be used on their next trips. Guide For Hire trip yesterday was a special one. Mr. Barry is a long time Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report podcast listener, used to be local, and now hailing from Tennessee. He stays on top of the fishing by listening to the podcast and has made it a point to come down every three or four weeks for some fishing ever since he moved. Life got busy and it has been a while since his last trip so he had me along to teach him some things and to hopefully catch some fish since it had been a while since he’d been. Barry is a big fan of Dylan Kiene and his work on flounder as well as his contribution to the podcast so Dr. Doormat tagged along as a special guest. We started the day on a good bite with speckled trout, ladyfish and needlefish mixed in. As we realized there was lots of other fish around as well as smaller sized trout we decided to make a move. Boy was that the right call - Barry, Dylan and I got on a hot bite for the next two hours throwing live croakers and just about anything you wanted to at them. We caught loads of fish and then Dylan decided to put a needlefish on his hook that we’d caught earlier in the morning (his request that it was in the livewell 🤣). We caught this 26” slob on the needlefish and lots of other quality fish as well. Really special day and really awesome time with these guys, no telling how many fish we released, look forward to taking Mr. Barry out again!

Lots of availability over the next two weeks! Open dates through August 27th. I know school just started back and everyone is getting back into the groove of their routines but the fish are biting and the beach is full of life! Got it done again yesterday with Speckled Trout and Spanish Mackerel making an appearance amidst what seemed like thousands of Ladyfish. Didn’t snap as many photos as normal cause the ladyfish action kept me so busy but we caught several nice Speckled Trout with the mackerel mixed in and were able to w**d through the ladyfish action to put together a meal.

If you’re interested in getting in on some of the fun before the fish make their transitions back North then give me a call at 251-623-4205 or check out our website.

Fun learning session on the beach with newly local Kalvin. Lots of Ladyfish showed up on the beach yesterday as did some premium water clarity. The lady’s made for some good, consistent action but they made it tough to access the species we were looking for. We grinded it out and fished three different locations to really try and give Kalvin a good lay of the land and solid understanding of how to read the beach and find those areas that hold fish. By the end of the day we had four trout and four ground mullet in the box making a solid couple meals for Kalvin to take home to the wife. Fun time breaking it all down and showing Kalvin what the beach is all about, hopefully our session translates well and he’ll be able to find great success in his own efforts along the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Another day of getting it done on the beach! This Friday I had the pleasure of taking local client Mr. Phil and his good friends Mr. Konstantin, his wife and their children Jake and Abi. We had a morning of fun catching Speckled Trout, Flounder, undersized Redfish, White Trout, Black Drum and other species that were roaming about the beach front and dirty water. We were blessed to have a really fun day in some tough conditions and even managed to catch a 4.5-5 for Jake while fishing. We kept at it all morning and finished the morning off with a flounder that was half an inch shy of going in the box, action from start to finish. I had a really good time taking this crew out there and look forward to getting Phil and his friends out there again.

Ran a trip yesterday with Becky and her two boys Max and Frank. These folks came down from Ohio to enjoy their last little bit of summer before school starts - Max even showed up in a “Dauphin Island Fishing Charters” hat that he got at “The Bait Wall” inside of the new gift shop “Pirate’s Treasure Chest” right next door to Pirates Bar & Grill. We knew we’d be facing some less than optimal conditions with the WSW wind and rain we’ve been having early in the week and arrived to the beach to dirty water and constant wave action. Despite the dirty water there were plenty of fish to be caught and lots of action for the boys to get on. Undersized speckled trout and redfish made an appearance and black drums and white trout joined the mix soon after. Stingray and blue crabs were around to steal our baits too! We w**ded through the small fish to find a few keepers and were able to send this family home to the rest of their people with a meal. Really fun time finding these fish and getting them to cooperate in conditions that we normally don’t do well in, blessed to get it done for sure!

Took good friend and client Noah and his family out for our yearly escapade on the beach. We tried to do our trip early in the week but the conditions just didn’t set up right so Noah, Amanda, Logan, Carson, Lana and the whole crew decided it’d be more fun to try for a round two Saturday before they left. I’m glad we did! Noah and his family are fishy as can be, the bite didn’t last long but while it was on we caught Speckled Trout, Flounder, Redfish, Stingrays, Blue Crabs and this Black Drum that made the trip a cool one with a big fish! “Dr. Doormat Custom Rods” built by Dylan Kiene tamed the beast and were definitely the favorite for Noah and his crew during our trips. Really looking forward to seeing these guys again when they come down in September and December! Can’t wait to see what we catch next.

If you’re looking to get out on the beach as serious anglers or with your family, give me a call at 251-623-4205 or check out the website linked in my bio! As summer is winding down my availability is more open and I’d love to get some folks out there while the bite is so fun!

Fun trip this past Friday with our third Missouri group of the week. The Lee’s spent their last morning on the island fishing for Brodie’s birthday heading out of town. We started off the morning using live croaker and live shrimp and were able to get the ball rolling quickly with Speckled Trout cooperating through the morning til around 8-8:30. During the trip Logan, Bryce and Brodie all caught some really quality fish and we released three fish in the 4-5 pound range per the Release Over 20 initiative. During the trip we also had some Flounder, Whiting, Stingrays and Blue Crabs as bycatch. These folks got to end their vacation off with a bang and took home a few fish for a meal too. Look forward to seeing them again next time theyre on the island. Blessed to get it done again, hopefully we can continue the momentum through some Full Moon and windier conditions projected for the weekend.

This week has been an up and down grind. Monday the bite was amazing, Tuesday it shut off, Wednesday it was on fire again and yesterday right back off, like a light switch! Despite a tougher day of fishing The Shore’s made the most of their day by catching Whiting, small Redfish, baby Pompano, Blue Crabs and Stingrays. Not every trip ends with a full box of fish but 99.99% of them end with big smiles and a good time. I’m thankful for some amazing clients who can make the most of it and enjoy themselves no matter what. Truly, that’s what it’s all about!

Special time on the beach with my Missouri people yesterday. One of my repeat clients and friends, Noah, brought his whole family down this year and I had one group on Tuesday and the other group on Wednesday. Tuesday was a struggle with storms and fish that didn’t want to cooperate, we got two hours into our trip then decided to move to Saturday and try again. Wednesday was the exact opposite. We started off with a big group of 8+ and got on a hot Speckled Trout bite throwing MirrOlure topwater lures and live croakers. As the morning progressed a storm rolled through and kicked up the wind, half of the group went home and another half stayed to fish after the storm passed over. As the morning went on we started to get in other species, Flounder, Black Drum and Whiting. The bite tapered off again around 10-10:30 so we moved locations and our group went down to three. These guys fished out our full six hours and we found another trout bite that lasted about 20 minutes and they let me catch our two biggest of the day, right around 5 pounds. We kept a lot of fish on this one to feed ALOT of people but we made sure to let the big ones go so they can contribute to our further fishery with those good genetics. Really looking forward to saturday’s second effort with Noah and his crew, if we can do half as goods as this we’ll have a great day!

The Carroll’s planned a trip up for their son and his friends a week or two ago. Originally they booked an afternoon trip but the morning bite has been more consistent so we talked about it on the phone a few days ago and bumped it to today. Me and Riley took these guys while they had a morning at home. The rain couldn’t stand in the way of these boys as they grinded through some spotty weather to put the hammer down on some Speckled Trout this morning on the beach. Hey 🤷‍♂️ the fish are already wet anyways. We got on a really nice bite and started our day with MirrOlure topwaters, the She Dog and Top Dawg. We moved on to live croakers and twitch baits as the topwater bite slowed down and continued the fun. After the Speckled Trout died off we changed gears and fished live shrimp on carolina rigs; Whiting, White Trout and Ladyfish made their appearance known and were a perfect way to wind down the morning with some action. Me and these boys had a really good time and they got to experience a really cool bite as well as learn something new. Look forward to guiding these guys again and can’t wait to hear about what they’re doing in life next time I see em 🤙

My only open dates for the rest of the week are Saturday morning and Sunday morning (8/9-8/10), give me a call at 251-623-4205 or check out the website link in my bio to get booked up!
