Photos from a pretty epic session I had with this cool dude from Hawaii. Mr. Kimo was traveling with family and found himself down here on the Alabama coast enjoying a change of pace from his work life in Chicago and experiencing a different beach from what he’d grown up in. It was really cool to be able to him to and show him what some of our local fish are like and he got to see some really beautiful real estate in Mobile Bay and our river systems.

Speckled trout and flounder cooperated well for us this day both on plastic as well as live bait. Big fish was on the list so we chased Jack Crevalle and Tripletail once the heat wore on but never got the bite we were looking for.

Quality fish and quality sunrises with a fun crew smashing some fish on topwater and a few on live shrimp/Fairhope Rattle popping corks. Really fun time catching speckled trout, flounder and tripletail with good guys and skilled anglers. Some days you’re the hammer and some days you’re the nail, on this early August morning we were the hammer for sure!

Riley Ludlam has done an excellent job running Beach Fishing Charters this year. Over the past 4-6 weeks he’s been doing an incredible job at offering both locals and vacationers a special experience riding around in the golf cart learning about our area and beach fishing as well as catching fish on the sand. I’ve gotten to take part of very few beach fishing trips this year (mostly just some truly OG and special customers) since offering inshore fishing trips and he has taken things in full stride. Our customers have given me reports of learning to read the beach, learning new techniques and tactics to use while they’re on the beach as well as the bonus of catching some fish too. It’s been special to watch Riley’s progression as a fisherman and I’ve really enjoyed seeing him shine as a young guide.

July was an incredibly busy month for us both on the beach and on the boat, usually running 5-6 days a week. Here’s some photos from some really fun trips on the boat with repeat clients that have become friends, family that I was blessed to get on the boat, and some new folks we’ve been blessed to make relationships with. These trips were action packed with everything from nearshore snapper trips out in the gulf, to throwing Z-Man Fishing Products plastics paired with Pro-Cure Bait Scents and Eye Strike Fishing jigheads for flounder in the rivers, spying Tripletail on floating structures, and catching speckled trout on top water lures and Coastal Brew Bait Co. 6” darts in the Mississippi Sound and Mobile Bay. It’s been really fun accessing all sorts of different places that our area has to offer and experiencing some really special bites while offering a fun time on the water to our customers, family and friends.

While Riley Ludlam has been making happy customers on our beach fishing charters, I’ve been doing my best to keep up with a full calendar of inshore and nearshore trips. A couple weeks ago I had a really cool full circle moment with The Taylor’s for a nearshore trip focused on Red Snapper and Jack Crevalle. As some of you may know, I was involved with a bad accident around 6 years ago and had a lengthy recovery, Mrs. Kila was one of my nurses and played a huge role in helping me get better physically as well as brightened my days mentally. I remember several times of her coming to check on me and she would always be in a good mood, oftentimes making me and my dad laugh and creating an environment that made her visits more than just a check up. It was really cool to be able to meet her husband and one of her sons and we had us a really fun time getting all jacked up on the Crevalle’s and catching some nice table fare with the snapper. Blessed to have the recovery that I’ve had and even more so that I get to take folks fishing and enjoy my passion everyday, God took the worst situation in my life and made it for the better good, doesn’t get any better than that.

Time to play catch up on some posts! Riley Ludlam has been doing a killer job making happy customers for repeat clients, The McCreary’s and doing a great job with our local family The Taylor’s. Such a blessing to be able to do what we do with our customers on the beach and to be able to offer a fun experience for all. Whether it’s catching all sorts of species the gulf and beachfront have to offer or trying to get tight on some game fish to put a meal together it is absolutely a special time. When conditions are good the Speckled Trout, Flounder and other fish have been giving our folks a fun time on the sand.

A special day with a special crew. A few times a year I like to donate a trip to good causes and I can’t think of a more deserving group than a couple guys who have put their lives on the line to serve our country and fight for my freedom to be a charter captain or any of the other fun things I find myself doing. I was blessed to take Brent and Birdo for a fun day of fishing for Red Snapper, Jack Crevalle and Tripletail! Thank you guys for spending the day with me and thanks for making a day like this possible Battlefield to Backwoods Veteran Outdoors

I’ve had some really good times with Mr. Mitchell lately. Fun when clients become friends and the fishing comes together. When it wasn’t raining and windy as can be about a week or so ago we were able to do a Capt. For Hire trip on Mitchell’s tricked out 24 Everglades. This trip was about red snapper and a redemption shot on a tripletail, something Mitchell has wanted to cross off the list for a while. Me, Butch and Mitchell got our snapper limit to start the day but didn’t get any pictures and then rode around, burned some gas and put in the time to get it done with this nice 13 pounder that made for a great learning session for targeting blackfish on his own. Really look forward to getting Mitchell back out there next time he’s in town!
