Link in comments to listen! This week's Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report features Capt. Tanner Deas of Dauphin Island Fishing Charters filling in for Butch Thierry , with reports covering an outstanding October bite for flounder, red snapper, cobia, triple tail, sheepshead, and more. With cooler weather finally arriving along the Alabama Gulf Coast, Tanner and his guests break down some of the best fishing opportunities of the fall season, from land-based trips around Dauphin Island to nearshore structure and offshore reefs.

Capt. Branden Collier of Capt.Collier 's Charters kicks things off with a fishing trip that went completely off-script. After engine trouble derailed their original king mackerel plans, Tanner, Branden, and their crew found themselves catching quality flounder while battling aggressive jack crevalle. Branden also shares an excellent cobia report

Tanner then turns the tables and calls Butch for a beach-fishing interview. He explains how falling tides, water clarity, sandbar cuts, and deeper troughs have shaped his recent Dauphin Island trips. While whiting have been biting well on small Carolina rigs and shrimp, the real highlight has been an excellent flounder bite around deeper pockets, seawalls, rocks, and docks. Tanner shares what has been producing quality flounder. He also looks ahead to improving sheepshead opportunities as fall progresses.

Capt. Richard Rutland of Cold Blooded Fishing closes the show with an inshore report focused on the developing fall trout and redfish bite around Mobile Bay, the Causeway, and nearby tidal rivers. Richard explains why speckled trout are beginning to stage near river mouths, how anglers can find productive water before the fish push farther north, and why redfish, sheepshead, and flounder provide plenty of options even when windy weather keeps boats off the open bay. Boat trips have been a great time but the beach is still giving opportunity for fun times and tight lines. Lots of bycatch like ladyfish, rays, small sharks and whiting makes for some fun rod bending action while trying to catch speckled trout, redfish, drum, and flounder cruising the surf. The beach bite will continue to last for several more weeks and should be a good time for those looking for a family friendly thing to do while staying in Dauphin Island, Alabama and can also be a good learning session for experienced anglers to have an understanding of how to approach fishing from the beach for game fish.

Spent some time with another local crew and had a really good time. The Vance Boys and my guy George put a hurting on the fish too. These guys were an absolute pleasure to have on the boat and it didn’t matter what we were chasing, they had a Great Days Outdoors and got after it. Speckled trout chewed on the Coastal Brew Bait Co. 6” Darts and the flounder smashed down on our Z-Man Fishing Products paired with Eye Strike Fishing jigheads and Pro-Cure Bait Scents.

This batch of photos is from a really fun trip with one of my great local clients Ed, his daughter Hannah and some of their very close out of town friends. We got to have an absolutely epic day on Coastal Brew Bait Co. 6” Darts, topwater lures, and Fairhope Rattle popping corks and live shrimp. The speckled trout bite was consistent as can be and we got some bonus white white trout, and a bonus flatty. After that we finished up our day with a redfish effort and were able to put a couple real nice slot fish in the box too! It was such a fine time with some amazing folks, I was blessed to be able to show Hannah and her crew a good time, can’t wait to do it again.

Photos from a pretty epic session I had with this cool dude from Hawaii. Mr. Kimo was traveling with family and found himself down here on the Alabama coast enjoying a change of pace from his work life in Chicago and experiencing a different beach from what he’d grown up in. It was really cool to be able to him to and show him what some of our local fish are like and he got to see some really beautiful real estate in Mobile Bay and our river systems.

Speckled trout and flounder cooperated well for us this day both on plastic as well as live bait. Big fish was on the list so we chased Jack Crevalle and Tripletail once the heat wore on but never got the bite we were looking for.

Quality fish and quality sunrises with a fun crew smashing some fish on topwater and a few on live shrimp/Fairhope Rattle popping corks. Really fun time catching speckled trout, flounder and tripletail with good guys and skilled anglers. Some days you’re the hammer and some days you’re the nail, on this early August morning we were the hammer for sure!

Riley Ludlam has done an excellent job running Beach Fishing Charters this year. Over the past 4-6 weeks he’s been doing an incredible job at offering both locals and vacationers a special experience riding around in the golf cart learning about our area and beach fishing as well as catching fish on the sand. I’ve gotten to take part of very few beach fishing trips this year (mostly just some truly OG and special customers) since offering inshore fishing trips and he has taken things in full stride. Our customers have given me reports of learning to read the beach, learning new techniques and tactics to use while they’re on the beach as well as the bonus of catching some fish too. It’s been special to watch Riley’s progression as a fisherman and I’ve really enjoyed seeing him shine as a young guide.

July was an incredibly busy month for us both on the beach and on the boat, usually running 5-6 days a week. Here’s some photos from some really fun trips on the boat with repeat clients that have become friends, family that I was blessed to get on the boat, and some new folks we’ve been blessed to make relationships with. These trips were action packed with everything from nearshore snapper trips out in the gulf, to throwing Z-Man Fishing Products plastics paired with Pro-Cure Bait Scents and Eye Strike Fishing jigheads for flounder in the rivers, spying Tripletail on floating structures, and catching speckled trout on top water lures and Coastal Brew Bait Co. 6” darts in the Mississippi Sound and Mobile Bay. It’s been really fun accessing all sorts of different places that our area has to offer and experiencing some really special bites while offering a fun time on the water to our customers, family and friends.

While Riley Ludlam has been making happy customers on our beach fishing charters, I’ve been doing my best to keep up with a full calendar of inshore and nearshore trips. A couple weeks ago I had a really cool full circle moment with The Taylor’s for a nearshore trip focused on Red Snapper and Jack Crevalle. As some of you may know, I was involved with a bad accident around 6 years ago and had a lengthy recovery, Mrs. Kila was one of my nurses and played a huge role in helping me get better physically as well as brightened my days mentally. I remember several times of her coming to check on me and she would always be in a good mood, oftentimes making me and my dad laugh and creating an environment that made her visits more than just a check up. It was really cool to be able to meet her husband and one of her sons and we had us a really fun time getting all jacked up on the Crevalle’s and catching some nice table fare with the snapper. Blessed to have the recovery that I’ve had and even more so that I get to take folks fishing and enjoy my passion everyday, God took the worst situation in my life and made it for the better good, doesn’t get any better than that.

Time to play catch up on some posts! Riley Ludlam has been doing a killer job making happy customers for repeat clients, The McCreary’s and doing a great job with our local family The Taylor’s. Such a blessing to be able to do what we do with our customers on the beach and to be able to offer a fun experience for all. Whether it’s catching all sorts of species the gulf and beachfront have to offer or trying to get tight on some game fish to put a meal together it is absolutely a special time. When conditions are good the Speckled Trout, Flounder and other fish have been giving our folks a fun time on the sand.
