Fun morning on the beach with Mr. Tim today. Started our morning fishing alongside Capt. Jay Rogers with topwater lures and live croakers. Tim stuck a nice slot redfish on top and let me and Jay catch one or two trout too. That bite seemed to die off as the sun came out so we moved to some different locations and hit a lull, found the bait and all the right stuff, just couldn’t get bit. We moved locations again, swapped tactics to the Fairhope Rattle and live shrimp and Mr. Tim was able to get his trout fix for sure. After that we hit a couple roadside locations where we completed our Inshore Slam with a small flounder. Really cool morning grinding it out and putting it together, look forward to the next time Tim is in town so we can get it done again 💪

Brought Kentucky to the beach this morning with this fun crew. Me and these guys started the day off with topwater lures and caught a few fish but due to some steady wave action struggled to get the ball rolling. We shifted gears after about an hour of that and went to Eye Strike Fishing Swimbait Eye jigheads paired with Coastal Brew Bait Co. and Matrix Shad while the youngest attacked the fish with Carolina rigs and live shrimp. We were able to plug away for the next two and a half hours on white trout, ground mullet, black drum, rat reds and speckled trout. Pretty consistent action with lots of species on the list! Awesome stuff. Had a great time guiding this crew and look forward to doing it again next time they are in town. Riley was with Branden today so I had some different help and Josh caught a nice one on topwater with a tag in her, be cool to see where she came from now that she’s out on the beach!

Caught some fish and beat the heat with The Brown family this morning. We stumbled upon an incredible bite and caught tons of fish on MirrOlure topwater lures and grubs as the morning progressed. These folks didn’t have much fishing experience but were eager to learn which led to them quickly picking up the proper tactics and twitches of each lure to entice the strike. It was a really cool morning watching these folks figure it out as they catch on their first Speckled Trouts (other species too) and even cooler to see them get it done on majority artificial lures. We self regulated and only kept what we need while letting the rest go so that these fish can be found again and enjoyed for the next group. Look forward to seeing these folks next time they come down to Dauphin Island, Alabama and can’t wait to teach them more tactics to contribute to their efforts at home in Coastal Mississippi.

Really fun and special morning running a Capt. For Hire trip with Mr. Scott, his son in law William and William’s seven year old son Willis. The goal today was to get Willis on some fish for the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament and we did just that. Willis caught at least eight or ten speckled trout with most of them in the over 20” range and over slot but we were able to stick two 21.5 inchers before we lost his attention to swimming and the beach. Willis was an absolute trooper and a hell of an angler for his age, the biggest fish of the day was just shy of 25”. For a while there Willis was in third place but with many anglers and many fish to go it may not hold! No matter what, the fire is lit and hopefully Willis takes it and runs with it as he becomes a young outdoorsman! Looking forward to the next trip with Mr. Scott and as always can’t wait to hear from him for our next trip.

Drum Roll please! 🥁 Had a local crew today with Mr. Jeff and his grandson Lane. These fellas smashed out the fish on the front beach and beat the heat too! Had a good time with these guys, always thankful to have some folks to take fishing and it’s a blessing to have some local guys take a trip with us. Little Lane smashed the fish and made the morning a fun one.

Let the fish fry commence! Mr. Wesley Brown and his crew came out for a morning of surf fishing. This family was such a great time and we had a blast catching on fish all morning long. It was defintely a quantity over quality type of day but it made for some really fun action. Little Christian was so psyched he kept count of his catches all day getting somewhere around 19 fish and he was sure to let his family know who caught the most 🤣 We caught at least twenty or thirty under sized speckled trouts, a couple undersized reds, three puppy drum, a baby hammerhead and an absolute pile of white trout, whiting, and ground mullet. It’s not often we’re able to catch and keep as many fish as we did today and it made for a very special event. Blessed to have some amazing customers and create new relationships with people as they come vacation on Dauphin Island, Alabama, look forward to seeing these folks next time they come down.

Brock n Tucker back at it again for the second time this week, this time with Jeff in tow. Joey Dombroski tagged along too, took some epic photos and caught on some fish with us as well. Gonna be some cool advertisment for the business, always a blessing to have him along. Stay tuned for his pics and check the fifth one for a sneak peak. Brock and his guys are avid fisherman and listeners of the Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report podcast and wanted to focus more on fishing with lures and tactics for artificials rather than using bite like we did on the first trip. Brock’s saying for the trip was “No Live Bait Needed” 🤣 The day in general was a grind but first thing in the morning we caught some fish and then we were able to work the beach and dial in the bait and our surroundings which led us to a hot, quality bite that lasted about 45 minutes. In that time frame we were able to catch about 15-20 Speckled Trout and were selective, releasing several upper slot fish and keeping others. Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish were mixed in and Riley stuck a bonus redfish for the crew. Definitely look forward to guiding these fellas again next year and hope they’re catching them for the rest of their trip!

Capt For Hire trips have been fun lately! Ran two boat trips this week, one for The Crawley’s over the weekend where we enjoyed targeting Red Snapper and Jack Crevalle. We grinded it out for some 16-20” Snapper to start the day and then changed gears when we finished up. Catching a Jack has been on Mrs. Suzanne’s list for a while now and she was able to get it done with this solid unit somewhere around 25 pounds that she plans to mount and put on the wall. Bonus - her nephew was able to get one too and the shark action was hot and heavy 😅 think I lost two packs of BKK hooks. Nothing like some good eats and some drag screaming bruisers to make a fun trip. Hopefully The Crawley’s have me back again for some fun soon!

My second guide for hire of the week was today with repeat clients and some amazing folks; Caleb and his son Carter, they brought Walker along this time too! This morning we had a blast catching Speckled Trout, Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. After that we rode around looking for a Tripletail to no avail. We switched gears to Flounder, found one or two and then accidentally stumbled upon a hot midday trout bite to finish it off. Always a special time to guide these fellas, look forward to our next trip next time they’re in town!

Fun learning session this morning with this Father/Son crew from Illinois. Brock and his son Tucker frequent the island and catch some fish but wanted to learn new areas and different tactics to contribute to their success. Fishing was a little tough and the beach was very populated this morning but we found a few fish willing to bite and were able to put together a meal. After that we did some flounder fishing and found a few fish willing to bite but it was a grind for sure. I had a blast teaching these guys a little of what I’ve been blessed to learn and I hope it helps with their own efforts. We’ll be going again for a second trip on Monday and approaching things a little differently than today, I’m looking forward to guiding them again and hope we get to find them chewing the rod tips off when we go again!

They can’t all be bangers! Tough conditions and tough fishing with this local crew today. Dirty water and “trash” fish took over the front beach and no matter where we went we couldn’t get away from them. We kept the rods bent and the kiddos had fun catching Ladyfish, pinfish, croakers, undersized speckled trout, rat reds and a couple blacktips but we weren’t able to put a full meal together, only one whiting and this puppy drum made its way to the box. Thankful to have customers that have a good time no matter what and that notice our efforts despite results.

I can’t guarantee the fish will bite or do what we want but I can always guarantee a full effort on fishing and keeping the group encouraged to have a good time. I feel these folks saw that we did just that, and I hope me and this local family will get a shot at redemption sometime in the near future.

If you’re interested in giving it a go, give me a call at 251-623-4205 or check out the website link in my bio. Got a pretty full schedule this week but there’s room for some afternoon trips on my calendar.

Sustained 15 mph winds and red blobs on the weather radar couldn’t keep this adventurous Colorado couple off the beach yesterday. Austin and Halley rode the ferry over from Gulfshores Alabama to Dauphin Island, Alabama for a Surf Fishing Charter and we got started around mid-morning. We arrived out on the beach to some less than optimal conditions but some absolutely fired up fish. Despite the dirty water and big waves, Stingrays, Flounder, Redfish, Speckled Trout and Whiting all made their way onto the sand for us and in plenty of numbers too. Lots of undersized speckled trout were caught and released, as well as a bunch of smaller flounder, a couple of them even tagged before we let them go. We had a blast fishing together and then they caught the ferry to enjoy their last night in town on the Eastern Shore, hope to hear from these folks again on their next trip down.
