Saloon No. 10 in Deadwood, South Dakota, is one of the most legendary watering holes in the American West. Located on historic Main Street, it’s not just a bar—it’s a living museum and tribute to the town’s wild frontier past. The saloon stands on the site where the infamous “Wild Bill” Hickok was shot and killed on August 2, 1876, while playing poker. Legend has it he was holding what would later be known as the “Dead Man’s Hand”—aces and eights—when he was gunned down from behind by Jack McCall, a disgruntled drifter. This event has cemented the saloon's status as a key site in Old West lore.

Today’s Saloon No. 10 is a vibrant recreation, filled with period artifacts, antique gaming tables, and bullet holes in the walls said to be original. It combines a museum-like atmosphere with a working bar, allowing visitors to sip whiskey in the same space where reenactments of Wild Bill’s death are performed daily. The saloon celebrates the lawlessness and romance of Deadwood’s gold rush days, preserving a sense of gritty authenticity. Historical photos, relics, and memorabilia fill every corner, offering a tangible connection to the town’s boomtown era.

More than a tourist attraction, Saloon No. 10 is a cultural landmark that captures the spirit of a town built on gambling, gold, and gunfights. Deadwood itself has embraced its wild history, and the saloon is central to its identity. Whether you're interested in Western legends, curious about 19th-century saloon life, or just looking for a drink with a story, stepping into Saloon No. 10 feels like stepping back in time—into a world where fortunes were made overnight, justice was swift, and every hand of poker could be your last.
