Did you know:
The 98th Academy Awards, is better known the Oscars. The statue, presented as an award to winners at the Oscars, is an Art Deco-style knight holding a crusader's sword while standing on a reel of film. The film reel features five spokes, representing the original branches of the Academy: actors, directors, producers, technicians, and writers.
The knight symbolizes a crusader for the film industry, with the sword representing protection and excellence. The award stands 13.5 inches tall and weighs 8.5 pounds, with a consistent design since 1929. The statue is made of bronze and plated in 24-karat gold.
The Academy protects the statuette's prestige so thoroughly that winners must offer to sell it back to the Academy for $1 before parting with it, say Daily Investor.
