The water flowing through the 9/11 Memorial pools is more meaningful than it may first appear.

Each individual name has its own small water line beneath the bronze panel, allowing water to flow underneath the names It’s a powerful detail.

Did you know? At the 9/11 Memorial, water flows directly beneath the bronze panels holding the victims’ names. You can place your hand on a name and reach underneath to touch the water—a powerful connection between remembrance and the continuously flowing memorial pools.

The two pools stand in the exact footprints of the Twin Towers. Their waterfalls descend 30 feet before the water drops another 20 feet into a central void that can never be filled—symbolizing an absence that will always remain. The memorial honors 2,983 lives lost in the September 11 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. 9/11 Memorial & Museum⁠

A detail many visitors may never notice, but one I will never forget. 🇺🇸❤️
