New ND State Perch Record?

Today is a great day!! An unofficial North Dakota State Record perch was caught by Alan Hintz of Stevens Point, Wisconsin fishing with Perch Patrol Guide Tyler Elshaug on Devils Lake, North Dakota. This perch measured 16 1/2 inches long and weighed 2.99 by ND Game Warden Jon Peterson on the scale at Woodland Resort. The scale measures in hundredths not ounces.

The current ND state record Perch is 2lb 15 ounces and was caught by Kyle Smith from Carrington, ND on Devils Lake on March 28, 1982.

The reason we say “unofficial” is because there is a 4 week waiting period for the ND Game and Fish Department to verify everything and proclaim the fish a state record. Now…we wait!

Great News!! It’s February 1st and the month of January is OVER! Not that we hate the month of January as it can be one of the premier months for ice fishing. But this January old man winter sunk its teeth in and didn’t want to let go. Bitter cold, wind and lots of it. Looking at the next 14 day forecast from now to mid-February the weather looks awesome! Lots of temps in the mid to upper 20s and things look pretty stable. Stable weather generally means good fishing. If you are looking to come to Devils Lake this winter it sure looks like this would be a great time to do it! Our walleye fishing has been stellar and the perch we have been catching have been some true Jumbos. Here are some pictures of the last couple of weeks our guests have experienced on the not so windy days…Good luck everyone!

Well the last 10 days have been a rollercoaster for both weather and fishing. High winds, cold fronts, another blizzard and now brutal cold. We have had some decent days on perch but lately the walleye fishing has taken center stage. To be expected with all the weather challenges. Our guests have been troopers enduring some of these mid January conditions. These groups were guided by Tyler Elshaug, Korey Sprengel, Devan Sundeen and Tom Backer.
