Our hearts are heavy as we think of our friends and neighbors in Kerrville and the surrounding Texas Hill Country who were impacted by the recent floods. We’re sending love and strength to everyone who has lost so much and to the first responders working tirelessly to help.

🧗‍♀️ Guide Spotlight: Erin Wackerla
We’re proud to highlight one of our amazing OWA guides, Erin Wackerla!

Erin began guiding with OWA in 2023 and quickly became a vital part of the team. With mentorship from OWA owner James Faerber, she earned her AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification and has continued to inspire others through her leadership and skill on the rock.

A passionate climber for over 15 years, Erin has explored crags across Texas and the western U.S. She’s currently the Board Chair for the Austin Chapter of the American Alpine Club and brings a thoughtful, inclusive energy to every climb she leads.

But Erin’s impact doesn’t stop there. She’s also the Co-Founder and Director of Programs at , a nonprofit that provides outdoor experiences to support long-term recovery, build community, and promote healing. Erin’s personal connection to recovery gives her work—and her climbing—a depth that resonates with the people she serves.

When she’s not climbing, you’ll likely find her enjoying horror movies with her husband and their three giant dogs. 🐾🎬

We’re lucky to have Erin as part of the OWA crew, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!

Guide Spotlight: Meet Matthew!

Born and raised in Austin, Matthew got his start climbing the rugged limestone and granite of Central Texas, with early adventures at Enchanted Rock and Reimers Ranch. Since then, he’s explored some of the best climbing destinations across the U.S., with a special love for the big mountains out West.

When he’s not crushing on the wall, you’ll find Matthew in the kitchen, deep into a board game, lost in a good book, or moving in new ways just for the challenge of it. He brings not only a passion for climbing but also a commitment to safety—he’s a certified Wilderness First Responder and an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor.
