Six years ago we had Lee Sanderson come over from Harare Zimbabwe to work with us on a project at Catlett Residence Hall at the U of I. This month we finally took her up on the offer to come visit her in Zimbabwe. Here are some pics of the project in 2019 and our trip in 2025. We visited Lee's studio Burnt Earth Designs. Wyalusing State Park. Oil on panel, 12’x8’. This is the largest oil painting I’ve completed. The Wyalusing State Park near Prairie du Chien overlooks the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. This painting was commissioned by Royal Bank for their new branch in Prairie du Chien. Changes are happening! 🎨🖼️

Local artist, Adam Eikamp, is on site painting a mural as part of our William Woodward Mississippi River Center renovations! The mural will feature flowers and plants native to Iowa that tell the story of the state’s tallgrass prairies.

Check out the progress during your next visit!

This project is funded, in part, by the Resource Enhancement and Protection Conservation Education Program (REAP CEP). REAP is supported by the state of Iowa, providing funding to public and private partners for natural and cultural resources projects, including water quality, wildlife habitat, soil conservation, parks, trails, historic preservation and more.
