At Black Dog Kayak and SUP in Duluth, we want you to have a safe ,clean, interesting,affordable and fun experience whether you rent or tour with us. We want to treat our clients like we would like to be treated.
We clean, sanitize and air dry all lifejackets , hanging them up to ensure complete dryness.
We check weather, wind conditions and direction, temperature and air quality before you tour or rent. We may strongly advise against Lake Superior in the afternoon or on windy or wavy days.
We try to bring you to the most interesting, historical locations and places with possible wildlife sightings, keeping in mind that the wildlife may be hidden.
Bugs! I HATE BITING BUGS. 🪰We spray the inside of the kayaks with a non DEET bug spray, give out citronella wrist bands and more in the buggy season. We discovered that drop or two of certain essential oils on the feet and wrists repelled horseflies and mosquitos very well. Only one person in our large group was "bugged"...me. I forgot to put😫the essential oils on my feet ☹️.
We keep our experiences affordable. Our prices are lower because we want to make our rentals and tours accessible to families and others that may otherwise not be able to use our services. That being said, we may have to raise our prices very slightly in the future due to increased fuel costs and other factors.
Finally, we want our customers to have FUN!
On very hot days, we may supply extra water. Dehydration is miserable ☹️We supply dry bags and phone bags for your gear and your phones so you can take pictures with your phone while it's still in the bag. We check on all members in touring party frequently to ensure they are doing well. We often supply small amenities for Bachelorette and Bachelor parties for groups larger than five people. We also recognize birthdays and engagements. 🎊
Keep Black Dog in mind when in the Duluth area; we love our custumers! The upcoming Fall season is here very soon, and viewing the autumn colors in the calmer water is a wonderful experience.

The St Louis River in Duluth has experienced an unusually difficult spring, marked by multiple April Fools snowstorms. Nonetheless, the ice is now breaking up, enabling a large flock of Trumpeter swans to inhabit our waterways, albeit in hidden coves. 🦢 It seems the birds possess remarkable instincts.
Our cherished pelicans will soon return.
