Ghost Walk Durango

Ghost Walk Durango Take a walk through 140 years of haunted history in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Tours offered Thursday-Tuesday at 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

GHOST WALK DURANGO is a guided walking tour starting at the Old Durango High School (201 East 12th Street) through the historic district of Durango, Colorado. Durango was founded officially in 1880 to serve the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad following an unsuccessful negotiation with the existing settlement of Animas City 2 miles North. Gun battles, including the Stockton Gang and the Simmons Gang

feud, lynchings, a fire in 1889 that consumed most of the wooden buildings and sidewalks in town, the Spanish Flu epidemic, and a general reckless 'Devil May Care' element that was omnipresent in the early days have all contributed to countless ghost and haunting stories. For the first 40 years of Durango's existence, no sane person left their home without a pistol. For farmers, ranchers and business people alike a lever action rifle or double barrel shotgun was strapped to a plow, in a saddle scabbard, or propped against a desk more often than not. All stories you will hear have been researched and well documented, and may have been experienced by your guide personally. Folklore and legends have been carefully preserved from generations of local storytellers. As educational as it is fun, GHOST WALK DURANGO is one of Durango's most popular attractions and a sure bet for fun and thrills. A couple of new reviews:

We had an entertaining ghost walk in Mancos. Joe was a great guide. He had so much knowledge of local stories and lore! Looking forward to doing his Durango walk too!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "An Unforgettable Experience!"

We had an incredible time on this ghost walk! The tour was the perfect mix of history, mystery, and spine-chilling stories that kept us captivated from start to finish. Our guide was amazing – knowledgeable, engaging, and full of personality – they really brought the tales to life (or the afterlife!).

The pacing was great, and the locations we visited were both eerie and fascinating. Whether you’re a believer in the paranormal or just love a good story, this is a must-do experience. It’s fun, atmospheric, and gives you a whole new perspective on the area.

Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a memorable evening filled with ghostly tales and local legends.

IMPORTANT
When you see bees like this, don't be afraid. Don't call firefighters or civil protection, don't move them, don't poison, don't kill!
It is bees traveling. They won't hurt you. They only stop for 24 hours. Don't disturb them and avoid getting close.
If you want to help them, put a flat plate or a flat container with a light layer of sugar water. Watch them feed, grab energy, and go their way.
We all must protect the traveling swarms. Bees are our survival insurance.
If bees die, we die later. Without bees, no human being will remain on the face of the Earth.
Please be careful and don't kill bees!

This photo shows the Sundance Kid, Etta Place and Butch Cassidy getting ready to have tea on their Cholila ranch in 1903. The photo was sent to a family member and remained in the family for many years until it was published in 1992.

According to one of the many legends of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and Etta Place in South America, two men and one woman at the table pulled their chairs into the limited shade offered by the thin limbs of casadensis trees. The isolated mountain village of San Vicente, Bolivia, was noisy and crowded with people, some of whom were loud and nearly shouting their conversations as they made their way from one shop to another. Wagons without springs pulled by half-wild horses passed by, and the rattle of the wheels over rocks and gravel added to the commotion.

Robert LeRoy Parker, better known as Butch Cassidy, leaned forward in his chair so his friends could hear him over the racket in the street. Harry Longabaugh, also known as the Sundance Kid, and his paramour, Ethel “Etta” Place, leaned in closely to listen. Butch was regaling the pair with stories of the South American riches yet to be had by those willing to take them. Bolivia’s plateaus were filled with silver, gold, copper and oil. Butch’s plan was to steal as much of the income made from the people who mined or drilled for the resources there as they could.

These guys are now here in Durango. It's now apparent someone from this organization recorded one of my tours a few months back and they're now claiming to be us online. Which is their standard operating procedure all over the US. :(

The way the US Ghost Adventures markets itself in some cities is so similar to longer-running local ghost tours that customers become confused, owners say.

Believe it or not! Here’s something to help you sleep tonight.

Some spooky photos recently surfaced on a popular Indonesian blog (mamasa-online) depicting the long disregarded ritual of co**se-walking. The photograph (shown above) depicts what appears to be the co**se of a woman moving along the streets with the aid of a man guiding her towards a waiting open casket.

The ritual itself is known to have been practiced in the village of Tara Toraja, where it was believed that when a person died their spirit must return to their village of origin in order to finish their journey into the afterlife.

In order to spare the family the burden of carrying the body to its final resting spot, the co**se was awoken by an experienced black-magician and, along with the family members, led towards the village cemetery on its final journey. During this journey the co**se was never to be addressed directly, or it would suddenly become un-animated and “fall down senseless.”

For this, quiet back-roads were mainly used in order to lessen the chance of coming into contact with others who might not recognize the ritual underway. Upon arrival the body would climb agreeably into its own casket, ending the journey and entering safely into the afterlife.

Whether you believe in the practice of co**se-walking or not, it is difficult not to admit that the custom is an interesting part of Tara Toraja culture.
