North Carolina-made snacks and drinks all gathered in one adorably convenient bag!

Is it too soon to start bringing up holiday planning? Probably. So we will leave it there; well actually, nah - we can bundle up all of the lovely snacks we have been featuring in these cute snack bags. They make great corporate gifts for teams that like treats (which would be all teams.)

Meet Tony. New York born, North Carolina raised, and fully committed to ending meals with a lil' something sweet.

Tony made his way south at a young age. He grew up on the Outer Banks, where beach life and football were part of the routine. He later landed in Raleigh to attend NC State, and, like many people, he never could leave North Carolina behind.

During the week, Tony works at Saint Mary Magdalene School, a role that takes patience, energy, and a solid sense of humor. Lucky for his tour groups, he brings all three with him when he is leading Taste Carolina tours in Raleigh and Durham.

While touring, Tony leans into what he loves most: sharing city history, highlighting the local food scene, and bringing stories to life in a way that's approachable and engaging. Ask him why he enjoys leading tours, and it usually comes back to the people; he gets to meet folks from all over and show off cities that he genuinely enjoys.

When he is not out leading tours, you can probably find Tony outdoors with his dogs, hiking with his wife and daughter, playing arcade games at Boxcar, or posted up watching football (especially if the NFL is on.)

A few things you might learn about Tony along the way:

โ€ข Buffalo chicken wings are his go-to, no questions asked.
โ€ข We aren't kidding about his sweet tooth. Ice cream and chocolate are always in the mix.
โ€ข Give him any kind of game to play, park to enjoy, or football game to watch, and Tony is in his element.

Take a trip to Lager Town with Marrissa, who manages Resident Culture Brewing Company's outpost in Charlotte's Market at 7th Street, the city's original food hall.

A nice perk of having a taproom in a food hall is that there is no shortage of beer pairing options here... an IPA with some spicy Tanzanian food from Serengeti Kitchen? Sure! Ale with your liege waffle from Sweet Crunch? Definitely! (It's both the breakfast of champions and a perfect dessert.)

From lagers to hazys to stouts and sours, plus seltzers and beyond, Marrissa has a longstanding passion for excellent craft beverages. Let her (or any of the other wonderful staff at Resident Culture) be your guide.

Durhamites can probably guess which wood fired oven these pizzas are coming out of ๐Ÿ‘€

We love Pizzeria Toro! Our recommended order? Start with any of their fresh salads. The kale salad is a favorite of long-time guests, but all their salads, soups, and antipasti are delicious. And they make you feel healthy for at least the first half of this meal.

For the 'za, choose a red sauce or white pizza... can go traditional-ish with fennel sausage or top notch pepperoni, or mix it up with a spicy lamb meatball pie or local mushrooms and a soft egg. Be sure to look out for seasonal specials like summer squash and ricotta and their annual clam pizza topped with clams in-shell from North Carolina's coast.

For those who haven't been to Toro in a minute, their gluten-free crust is incredible.

Luckily, dessert goes to the heart instead of the stomach, so there is always room for a little something sweet. The fried-to-order zeppole is outstanding.

North Carolina snack producers round two! Here are a few of our favorite savory options we've been reaching for lately.

๐Ÿฟ The Mad Popper - Small batch popcorn with flavors that go from classic to "wait...that actually works?" (Spoiler... it does.)

๐Ÿง€ Piedmont Pennies - If you have not had a cheese straw before, that should be rectified ASAP. And this one is in penny-shaped form. Butter, cheese, and flour are baked lovingly together and make "just one more" a dangerous game.

๐Ÿฅจ Queen City Crunch - A Charlotte favorite! Locally made artisan pretzels coated in fun, bold flavors.

Did we miss any? Tell us another North Carolina snack maker we should know about!

We love our local restaurants and our local snack and beverage producers! North Carolina is full of folks making seriously good treats. Here is what we have been reaching for lately.

๐Ÿซ– Asheville Tea Company - Ingredients grown right here in the Southeast. A taste of the region.

๐Ÿ˜‹ Isaac's Bagels - We knew that Issac bagels (a verb,) but did you know that Isaac marshmallows too? These freshly made brown butter marshmallows will make you rethink your store bought ones.

๐Ÿช Legally Addictive - Growing up, we made these around the holidays and called it "Holiday Crack." Not quite a cookie, not quite a cracker, but it is a snack you will accidentally finish in one sitting.

๐Ÿฅค Devil's Foot - Asheville's craft soda maker brings bright, refreshing flavors and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. North Carolina sodas beyond our beloved Cheerwine.

There is no shortage of talented makers across North Carolina, and we are always excited to see shelves stocked with local favorites.

Which one are you grabbing first? Or better yet, tell us about another North Carolina snack maker we should know about!

Interviewing Katie on zoom during covid while she was living in England is quite the throwback! Although all of Taste Carolina's tour guides - present and past - really love food and food tours, Katie might be the most enthusiastic of all. Hired! Food tour guiding really is a perfect fit for her. She's outgoing and sweet, resourceful, and a fabulous host.

Katie leads a ton of tours. You can usually find her leading Uptown tours on Saturday mornings, then doubling up with a NoDa or a Davidson tour in the afternoons.

Check out Facebook or your inboxes for our latest newsletter spotlighting our Charlotte tours and tour guides.
