Meet JP. He's a long time Asheville resident - since 2006! As a Grammy Award winning guitarist and a food enthusiast, JP has spent years immersed in the city's creative culture.

JP loves great food and good conversation. He feels right at home guiding food tour guests through restaurants, discussing flavor profiles, and delivering descriptions of the points of interest and history that make Asheville such a unique and special place. His favorite part of leading tours is getting to meet people from all over the world and giving them a taste of his town, and he makes every experience feel relaxed, welcome, and memorable.

When he is not out leading food tours, there is a good chance JP is playing music, roaming through the woods, or working on building the nature retreat he plans to open in the near future. He's also often experimenting in the kitchen... with some exciting new recipes that will of course be a part of his highly anticipated online cooking show. Be sure to tune in! Meet Jessica. Part food lover, part history buff, and always ready to help you find your next favorite restaurant.

Jessica is our “free floating food tour guide” leading tours across Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Chapel Hill/ Carrboro, and Durham... but also Wilmington, Asheville, and Charlotte! And Raleigh if we ask nicely. A pretty impressive range of the North Carolina food scene! Whether she is walking guests through a historic downtown or introducing them to a buzzing local restaurant, she loves helping people experience the personality and flavor that make each city unique.

And about that self-proclaimed history nerd in her. It's absolutely true. Lucky for her tour groups, that just means plenty of fascinating stories alongside your delicious food tastings. Jessica is curious and hungry, and she knows her tour guests are, too. She loves connecting the dots between local history, community, and the restaurants that help shape a city’s identity. For her, tours are about more than eating well, they are about discovering places you want to come back to, meeting new people, and experiencing a city on foot in a way you cannot from behind a windshield.

When she is not out leading tours, there is a good chance Jessica is exploring a new restaurant herself, diving into a history rabbit hole, or poking around her garden. Her favorite food and drink pairing is always evolving, but a medium-rare burger and a hoppy b**r never disappoint.

The Times Bar in downtown Asheville has been making incredible craft cocktails for almost 10 years. But did you know they also became a coffee shop when Covid hit to stay busy?

So now we go twice a day.

This lemon almond latte will catch you off guard. Not too sweet, and the lemon is subtle, but still adds a little something!

(Pro tip: Try The Times Bar's espresso martini, the best of both worlds.)

Meet Courtney. This girl does food. She's a chef, owner of Delish NC, and one of our long-standing food tour guides... 12 years in Wilmington!

Courtney initially made her way to North Carolina from New York City as a textile designer. But then, what started as just a love for cooking quickly turned into a career in the restaurant world, and she spent a decade working as a chef in a seafood-focused downtown kitchen.

Delish NC is Courtney's personal chef business. She creates customized in-home dining experiences, teaches cooking classes, and brings restaurant quality meals straight to her clients’ tables. She makes fresh pastas, ramen bowls, lots of seafood, and pretty much everything else, and she does it all with North Carolina produce and local seafood.

Courtney's deep roots in the local food scene really shine through on tours. She personally knows just about everyone in the restaurant and hospitality communities. For her, leading Taste Carolina tours is about supporting fellow chefs, celebrating small businesses, and giving guests a true taste of Wilmington’s tight-knit food scene.

When she is not cooking, bartending, teaching cooking classes, or leading tours, Courtney is spending time with her son, exploring new restaurants across the country, and taking in live music.

A few things you might learn about Courtney on a tour:

• She will never turn down a fresh baguette and an excellent cheese board (the more variety on it, the better.)
• Red w**e and a good porter are go-to drinks.
• Courtney moonlights as a bartender at her local watering hole, where she also books their live music.

A food tour is a chance to try something new in a low-stakes setting. A new dish or an unfamiliar ingredient. Even a different way of eating!

But the best might be trying a new-to-you restaurant that you may have walked right past otherwise.

That is part of what makes food tours so fun!

Worst case? You find out it’s not for you and move onto trying the next thing up.

Chef Rhodes is a Top Chef Alum and two-time James Beard Awards nominee. His coastal cuisine infused with Caribbean flavors is a must try for locals and visitors to the Port City.
