Julianne Herz Smith started Diggins Dirtworks after relocating to Dutch Flat, CA, where the loam unearthed from decades of hydraulic mining that can frequently be seen, was an inspiration for her earthenware bowls, pitchers, and plateware. Already creating ceramic designs for practical and decorative use for years, Julianne has continued to grow and experiment with new techniques. Now based in the mountains of Placer County, she also shows her work at North Tahoe Arts in Tahoe City.
