On May 22, 1934, Dyess Colony officially opened in Mississippi County, Arkansas after nearly 16,000 acres of land was cleared in the rural Mississippi River delta or northeast Arkansas.

Eventually, nearly 500 families would call Dyess Colony home, including the Cash family.

Dyess Colony had a railroad! I am still working on finding out specifics, but if you look in the lower left hand corner of this photo, you can see it. I've looked at this picture numerous times and never realized those were rails. If you have more info regarding the railroad, please comment or message me.
