Being without water is no fun, we know that, however, running your well pump off of a portable generator may not be possible and can actually be damaging to your well pump. Due to the severe storm yesterday, we’ve had many calls from customers trying to run their well pumps off generators without luck. Most well pumps run off 220V, and require a lot of power. Many “home owner” box store generators are simply not powerful enough to run your well pump properly. For this reason, we always suggest contacting a licensed electrician who can look at the power draw of your home and your well pump and determine if the generator you have is sufficient to safely use.
