The rain didnt deter this father/son team from Maryland. Nor did it deter the stripers from biting on an action packed morning, pretty much nonstop action.

The Equipment...

I am outfitted with Penn and Avet conventional lever drag reels and Penn and Shimano spinning reels to suit everyone's preference. My gear is serviced in the off season to make sure it runs flawlessly throughout the short season.

Where others may rig balloons, I incorporate Redi-Rig Floats, with live bait fishing. These are reusable and will aid in more hookups. They also make the fight that much more enjoyable with out the resistance of a balloon on the line.

Bass Monkey has updated electronics. The Dragonfly Fishfinder may look small, but it has the perfect amount of power and clarity for the relatively shallow water we fish. New this year is a Garmin Echomap 10" w/ Sidevu & Downvu. There is also a Garmin Radar for those "not so clear" mornings.

Welcome to Great Island Charters. My name is Mick Polakowski. I have been fishing Quahog bay for over 15 years. I have fished in Casco Bay even longer. I have fished with friends and family for all those years. I am a Maine Registered Guide and Certified Captain with the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as a 7yr Veteran with the Coast Guard. I have been a Professional System's Technician for Safe Harbor Great Island, for the past 15+ years. Needless to say my equipment is meticulously maintained and ready for Maine's short summers.

For as long as I can remember, whoever I have taken out, people have always said I should do this as a business. I finally decided to do just that.

Great Island Charters, operates with a 21 ft Seafox center console, named the Bass Monkey. It is powered by 150hp Mercury Saltwater outboard.

Great Island Charters, can accommodate the novice angler, of all ages, to the most seasoned angler. We primarily use live bait, but will adapt to lures if the conditions call for it. We primary target Striped Bass, but can provide mackerel and small fish trips at a discounted rate.

At this time I am not offering offshore trips, for charter. Sightseeing trips are offered at a discounted rate. For sightseeing I can accommodate up to 5 people. For Fishing I prefer to cater to 2 people. However I will make some exceptions on a case by case basis. (please contact for more info).
