June is National Safety Month, a reminder that safety starts with awareness, preparation, and education. At UDig NY, safety is at the core of our mission as we work to help protect people, property, and essential services across Upstate New York.

Throughout the month, the National Safety Council is sharing free resources focused on moving safety forward, roadway safety, holistic worker health, and preventing slips, trips, and falls. These topics align with our commitment to fostering a culture of safety both above and below ground.

Warmer weather means excavation season is ramping up across New York. ☀️🚧

Before breaking ground, make sure your Certified Excavator Program (CEP) certification is up to date. UDig NY’s CEP helps reinforce safe digging best practices and Code Rule 753 requirements to help protect crews, communities, and underground infrastructure.

Remember:
✔️ CEP certifications are valid for 5 years
✔️ A renewal class must be completed each year to maintain certification
✔️ Online and in-person renewal opportunities are available

Stay safe this excavation season and keep your certification active.

Planning a new project? Remember to follow the Code Rule!

Before you start digging, make sure to allow two full business days for processing, and ensure that all utilities listed on your ticket have responded. This helps us keep everyone safe and ensures we can mark any underground utilities properly.

Don't forget to account for observed holidays, which might extend the waiting period.
