Just because August 11 has passed doesn’t mean the reminder should.
Bob from next door is calling… He noticed you’re planting flowers—did you contact 811 first?

Every digging project, big or small, starts with a simple step: contact 811. Not doing so is the top reason underground utility lines are struck and damaged, which can lead to service outages, injuries, or worse.

811 is free, fast, and the foundation of every safe digging project.
Be a good neighbor. Always contact 811 before you dig.

This year, UDig NY marked 811 Day with events across the state, spreading the safe digging message in fun and impactful ways. From baseball games and community gatherings to job site visits and giveaways, we connected with homeowners, contractors, and families to remind everyone to contact 811 before starting any digging project.

A big thank you to our partners, field representatives, and the communities who joined us in celebrating safe digging. Every conversation helps protect lives, prevent damage, and keep New York safe.

These volunteers from our Western New York Damage Prevention Council spent their Friday serving almost 2,000 free hot dogs with a side of excavation safety. Working with Turner Construction Company, they served lunch to the workers at the construction site of the Buffalo Bills’ awesome new stadium.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today a success!
