Chappy Ferry

Chappy Ferry The Chappaquiddick ferry
(212)

In operation as early as 1807, the Chappy ferry is the oldest business on the waters of Martha’s Vineyard, and quite probably the third or fourth oldest on the Vineyard itself. To learn just about everything there is to know about the ferry -- from the blind man who owned and skippered it for thirty-seven years, to the seaplane that hit it In 1937, to the tragedy at the D**e Bridge, to the crucial

roles it played in JAWS -- look for THE CHAPPY FERRY BOOK (which comes with a short film about the ferry on DVD), available at Island bookstores, by order through your own bookstore, or on Amazon:

Notice of temporary change in Chappy Ferry schedule. Beginning Saturday April 11th.
In order to reduce the length of time that the ferry captains are exposed to the public during
the pandemic, the ferry will operate on the hour rather than continuously.
We ask that travelers make an effort to plan their passages at the top of the hour. This will
allow the captain time to go into the ferry house to disinfect on a regular basis.
To accommodate seniors who wish to take advantage of Stop & Shop’s 6:00 to 7:30 AM
dedicated shopping time for folks over 60 years of age, the ferry will make the first trip of the
day at 6:00 AM.
As usual, if you have an emergency which requires the police, ambulance, fire department or
emergency room, dial 911. The ferry captain will remain on the premises to provide immediate
emergency service.
This is a temporary schedule change which will run experimentally through Saturday April 25th.
If necessary, this temporary schedule may be extended by permission of the Edgartown Board
of Selectmen.
To summarize: The Chappy Ferry will operate on the hour at the top of the hour. First trip is at
6:00 AM, last trip is at 11:00 PM.

We flipped over the new Edgartown ramp today so we can finish welding and start painting. All the gray metal is stainless steel and that was used on areas where paint will get worn off.
