The COI is currently the premier location in Rio Grande Valley to receive orthopedic services.
Physical Therapist Requirements
• Graduated from an accredited physical therapy program
• Licenses/Certifications: CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support), State License-Physical Therapist-Texas

Understanding the Impact of Knee Pain on Quality of Life: The largest joint in the body, the knee is essential for mobility, stability and overall physical function, enabling us to walk, run, jump and perform numerous daily activities. However, knee pain – whether due to injury, overuse or medical conditions – can severely impact a person’s daily life.

Knee pain affects a significant portion of the adult population in the U.S., per the National Institutes of Health, with approximately 25% of Americans experiencing knee pain, making it a leading cause of disability and mobility loss.

So, to help Rio Grande Valley residents better understand knee pain and its impact on quality of life, South Texas Health System will devote the latest episode of its monthly “South Texas Healthy Living” TV program to knee pain.

Airing this Sunday, June 29, at 9:00 a.m. on KVEO-TV NBC 23, the program will feature a sit-down interview with Cornerstone Regional Hospital orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr. Juan Serrato, who'll discuss the common causes on knee pain, how knee issues are diagnosed and what preventative steps we can take to prevent knee problems.

Dr. Raul Marquez has been practicing in the Rio Grande Valley for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in technological advances including robotic surgery. He is the first orthopedic surgeon in the Valley to use robotic technology in the O.R. and has proven to be successful.

We are glad to welcome Dr. Daniel Romanelli to our team in May 2020. Dr. Romanelli is Board certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. With over 20 years of experience, he completed his fellowship training in Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports medicine in Los Angeles, CA. With a Bachelors degree from UCLA and medical degree from New York Medical College. This dual certification enables him to assess, diagnose, and heal a complexity of musculoskeletal conditions as both a shoulder specialist and knee specialist, giving you the power to get back to life without any worries.
