DID YOU KNOW: "Sea Island" is both a cultural and a geographic term. Geographically, it is a unique landform that occurs in the United States only on the southeastern coast. The sea islands stretch along the coast from Charleston southward to Amelia Island, Florida. Like most of the sea islands, what we consider to be Edisto Island is really a composite of many islands, large and small, connected by bridges and causeways, assembled by nature into a giant jigsaw puzzle. The high land areas are filled out by extensive salt marshes, which are both physically and culturally part of Edisto. This composite island is surrounded on all four sides by deep water - The Atlantic Ocean, the North Edisto River, the Dawhoo River and the South Edisto River. Edisto Island ("Big Edisto") is by far the largest piece of the puzzle. Dozens of smaller island complete the composite.

To learn more about Edisto's history, be sure to come visit the Edisto Island Museum. And, if you join the Edisto Island Historic Preservation Society, you get free admission to the Museum, as well as a 10% discount in the Gift Shop. Hope to see you soon!

5* and Pet friendly! Now booking for Spring and Summer!

A 5 minute walk to the beach! The Big Sandpile was designed and built by a local Charleston artist. The house has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, and large windows with beautiful, natural light and views of the Palm and Live Oak trees. The house is close to walking and biking trails, and sits on the 2nd hole of Plantation Golf Course.
