Choosing the right resort for your family:

Finding the perfect resort for your family and your families needs is not as easy as it may seem. With more than 25 resorts within Disney World property it may be a little overwhelming.

There are three categories to choose from when picking a resort. Value, Moderate and Deluxe. So one starting point for you may be your families budget.

You may also want to think about what your use of the resort will be. Do you want just a place to sleep after you’ve rope dropped and closed down the park. Is proximity and mode of transportation important to you.

For this example I will be using my family and what are needs are for our upcoming vacation during the Thanksgiving holiday.

We chose Old Key West resort, Old Key West was the original Disney Vacation Club resort and accommodations range from Deluxe studio rooms to a three bedroom Grand Villa.

We will staying in a one bedroom villa, this type of room sleeps up to 5 adults. It has a full kitchen, with stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. It also has washer and dryer and one bathroom. It has a master bedroom with a king size bed, and a queen sofa sleeper and a a twin size sleeper chair.

The reason we feel this is the right room for us is because we are anticipating larger crowds and we may want to take a break in the middle of the day, and maybe cook dinner or breakfast. We are the type of vacationers that do laundry during vacation so we don’t have to come home and do laundry after a long week.

Also this resort is close to Disney Springs and our favorite Moderate resort Port Orleans French Quarter, so Disney Springs and French Quarter are just a short river boat ride away. Transportation to and from the parks is via bus or if you choose to hire a Minnie Van that you can book using the Lyft app.

It’s never too early to start thinking about your next trip, and 2026 is going to be a fantastic year to visit — especially for kids!

Walt Disney World vacation bookings for 2026 will become available starting April 22.
