We had an amazing paddle yesterday on the upper Pasquotank River! We picked up litter on the 3 mile stretch, but did a little over 5 miles altogether. Our main goal was to do litter pick up and we did just that!

Along with all the litter we did see lots of wildlife like prothonotary warblers, barred owls, brown water snakes, and juvenile pileated woodpeckers in a tree cavity!!

Here’s the recap of what may have been our last paddle of the year!

We had such a fun group of folks join in on the mission to clean up part of the upper Pasquotank River—from Koen Cemetery to Morgan’s Corner (we didn’t quite make it to Bingham Road like originally planned).

This fabulously fantastic team was able to gather up ‼️ 140 pounds of litter!‼️

We cleaned from the water all the way up onto the riverbanks, covering quite a few yards on both sides.

And along with that great success, we also got to enjoy the intrinsic beauty the river shows off during the fall.

Sorry for the late post, but it’s been a week since our excursion from Shingle Landing Boat Ramp in Moyock to the Northwest River camping platforms!**

We paddled out around 11 a.m. to the platforms, where we met Rodney for lunch. Along the way, we chased up a couple of belted kingfishers, and just before reaching the platforms, we saw thousands of purple martins filling the sky!

After lunch, we paddled back to the boat ramp and parted ways with Anne, Sam, and Tree. Davis and I (Misti) then loaded up our kayaks with camping gear since, unfortunately, the water had moved out and grounded Rodney’s boat 😱. That didn’t stop us, though! We packed as much as we could onto two kayaks—big thanks to Sam for letting us borrow one—and made our trek back to the platforms.

Once we returned, we finished setting up camp and enjoyed a nice evening of grilled shrimp, potatoes, cold beverages, s’mores, and Rummikub. It was a chilly night, and none of us got much sleep, but it was still a fantastic trip!

You will also notice some burn damage and litter in some of the photos. Please always remember to be responsible and respectful of these places so everyone can enjoy them.

We’ll be planning another outing in the spring, so if this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, keep an eye out for details. And while you’re at it, be on the lookout for our last paddle of the year!

We had a beautiful paddle on Indiantown Creek this afternoon. Ann skimmed past a snake poking its head out of the water, Sam ran into a prickly bush and I, Misti, had a fish jump onto my boat! Along with all that action we saw a male and female belted kingfisher, a couple of great blue herons, some ducks and some bats! 🦇🦆

We had a great time and hope to see y'all at the next paddle!

What a great day for a paddle! We set out at 9a and paddled from county line boat launch to halls creek boat launch. It took us 3 hours to paddle 4.5 miles and the views did not disappoint.

Surrounded by all that beauty and nature you know we had to take care of her a bit, so we did what we always do -- picked up litter we saw along the way!

Thanks to everyone that came out and hope to see you (and hopefully a few new faces) on the next one!

For those that couldn't join our paddle today....you definitely missed a beautiful 6 mile out and back of the Perquimans River. It was breezy, cool and warmed up a little as the morning went by. We spotted a red bellied water snake, 2 cottonmouths, turtles, turkey vultures(buzzards), and plenty of other wildlife that did not get identified.

Thanks for a great paddle everyone! Keep your eyes peeled for our next paddle! We hope to see you there!!

Thanks everyone for coming out yesterday morning, even though it was only three of us! It was a great morning on New Begun Creek.

Starting at Sawmill Park we paddled 6 mi south round trip toward the Pasquotank River. The kayak launched there is essentially just a wooden ramp that leads into the water. Conditions were mild with little to no wind which made it a smooth paddle!

This Creek would be great for beginners or anyone looking for stillwater, at least until you get to the Pasquotank River.

Stay tuned for our next paddle happening a month from now on October 13th, a Sunday afternoon. Time and Location TBD but, rest assured, it will be a good paddle!
