🏙️✨ Did you know one building changed Elizabeth’s skyline nearly a century ago?

Rising above Broad Street, the Hersh Tower became a symbol of a new era for downtown Elizabeth.

Built in 1931, the Art Deco tower was planned as a 12-story building—but during the project, two additional floors were added, bringing it to 14 stories and making it a defining feature of the city skyline.

And its height wasn’t the only thing that made it remarkable. The building incorporated features considered innovative for its era, including a centralized vacuum system and an unusual emergency evacuation system.

From its upper floors, visitors could take in sweeping views toward the New York metropolitan area. 🌆

Nearly a century later, the Hersh Tower still stands above Broad Street—a reminder of a moment when Elizabeth was growing upward.
