Puget Sound Energy's Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center provides wind turbine tours, educational exhibits, and 360 degree views of the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia Basin. ants need to be able to walk 1/3 of a mile). Please wear closed-toed shoes. We are 30 minutes east of Ellensburg, WA on the Vantage Highway (not I-90). Please plan accordingly. We will cover the technology and capabilities of the wind farm, while viewing a solar array, wind turbine generator, a wind turbine blade along the trail, and the inside of the base of a wind turbine. To schedule a separate, group tour of Wild Horse, please call 509-964-7815. The wind farm is an excellent location for school field trips, business meetings, car club gatherings, and more. The conference room is available by advanced reservation. It features a meeting room accommodating 48 people and a full kitchen. Set on a ridge at 3,500 ft. ridge, the visitor center provides views of the wind turbines, solar array, and the Cascade mountain range. On a clear day you can see the vast Columbia Basin, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount Hood. The Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility has 149 turbines spanning 10,800 acres, and it is the 2nd of 3 wind facilities owned by Puget Sound Energy. The facility can generate up to 273 megawatts of electricity, and on average, powers 60,000-70,000 homes. POSTING POLICY

It's Basalt Cactus season! Don't miss out on the Basalt Cactus Ecology & Conservation Field Trip with Ron Bockelman on May 9th through Get Intimate with the Shrub-Steppe & Yakima River Canyon Bird Fest! You will dive into their habitat, flowers, seeds, what eats them, and rarities like this crested cactus. This extremely rare type of fasciated plant is often called brain cactus or snake cactus because of its very contorted and convoluted shape. If you want to explore on your own with a free access permit, the cactii are just starting to bloom at our lower elevations, between 2,500 and 3,000 ft. Head over to pse.com/wildhorse to fill one out, or complete one in person at the visitor center.

We are working on getting our Wildflower and Wind Power Walk schedule up on our website and social, but we will have morning and afternoon sessions available on April 25th and May 10th. There are also so many other awesome opportunities to learn about our local landscapes! The Othello Sandhill Crane Festival is coming up in March with a broad range of field trip topics and styles, the Cowiche Canyon Conservancy just shared this great spring event schedule, and Get Intimate with the Shrub-Steppe & Yakima River Canyon Bird Fest has a great line up for May 9th and 10th!

Mark your calendars! There is something for everyone with this lineup of spring community walks.

You have two months to train for Run Like the Wind 2026! You could always just show up and wing it, but this course is not for the faint of heart! The 5k is hiker friendly though, so if running isn't your style, you can still register and participate, which supports our friends at Kittitas County Search & Rescue. Wind and wildflowers guaranteed! Register at www.run-like-the-wind.com
