The Finger Lakes isn’t just about world-class wines.

It’s about moments like this.

Early morning fog drifting across Seneca Lake. Silence on the water. The first light of day reflecting across the marina. A reminder that some of the best parts of travel happen between the winery visits.

This is one of the many reasons Jamie and I keep coming back.

We’re excited to announce our 2026 Finger Lakes Wine & Gastronomy Experience.

November 9–12, 2026

Extraordinary wines. Incredible food. Beautiful scenery. And moments you’ll remember long after the last glass is poured.

Join us in the Finger Lakes.

There’s wine tasting… and then there’s stepping behind the scenes.

One of the unforgettable moments from our time at Bodega Finca Valpiedra was getting insider access into the barrel room for a private tasting experience surrounded by the wines as they quietly evolved around us.

Barrels. Cellars. Aromas. Stories. And the opportunity to taste wines where they are actually being shaped.

Experiences like this completely change your connection to a wine. You’re no longer just tasting what’s in the glass. You’re understanding the place, the people, and the process behind it.

These are the moments that stay with you long after the last sip.

Most people visit wineries.

Our guests step inside family legacies.

During our recent VIP Winery Vacations journey through Piedmont, Jamie and I had the incredible privilege of bringing our group to Fontanabianca in the heart of Barbaresco.

And this was special.

Matteo Pola personally guided us through his family’s estate, a winery started by his grandfather and built over generations into one of the hidden gems of Neive.

This is not a massive production winery.
They produce only about 160,000 bottles annually.

Small.
Focused.
Hands-on.
Deeply connected to the land.

And the land here is extraordinary.

The estate is much more than vineyards. The Pola family also farms hazelnut trees throughout the surrounding hillsides, creating the kind of authentic agricultural landscape that defines Piedmont.

Standing on the terrace overlooking Neive, surrounded by vineyards, orchards, rolling green hills, and tiny villages in the distance, our guests experienced the kind of beauty that photos almost cannot capture.

Then Matteo brought us underground into the cellar where things became even more fascinating.

Inside the cellar walls, portions of the earth are intentionally exposed, allowing you to literally see the geological layers beneath the estate. Limestone, clay, marine sediment, and ancient deposits stacked through time.

Matteo explained how these soils shape everything:
the vine growth,
water drainage,
root depth,
aromatics,
tannin structure,
minerality,
and ultimately the personality of the wine itself.

This is the kind of insider experience that changes how you think about wine forever.

And of course, the wines were stunning.

Elegant Barbaresco.
Beautiful Barbera.
Fresh Arneis.
And an Alta Langa sparkling wine that absolutely wowed our guests.

This is why Jamie and I created VIP Winery Vacations.

Not to check wineries off a list.
But to create meaningful access to the families, vineyards, cellars, and stories behind the wines.

These are the moments that stay with people long after the trip ends.

If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing wine country from the inside, come travel with us.

We're going back to Catalonia, Spain. 🇪🇸

And this is not tourism.

This is the Catalonia we know through years of friendships, wine buying, and relationships built one bottle, one meal, and one producer at a time.

We'll wander the Mediterranean streets of Sitges, descend into historic sparkling wine caves at Gramona, explore the dramatic mountain vineyards of Priorat, experience Catalonia's legendary vermouth culture, enjoy paella among vineyards, visit family wineries, discover hidden villages, and share unforgettable meals along the way.

Jamie and I personally host every experience. No giant buses. No tourism desks. No generic itineraries.

Small groups only. Real access. Slow travel done right.

If Spain has been on your list, this may be the trip.

Travel differently.
Travel personally.
Travel with people who know where the side doors are.

Beneath the hills of Piemonte lies a hidden world most travelers never see.

Deep under Contratto, we walked through endless Alta Langa tunnels lined with bottles quietly aging in the darkness. Hundreds of thousands of bottles resting below ground in historic cellars carved into the hillside. Silence. Cool air. History in every step.

This is one of those moments that reminds you wine is not just a beverage. It’s time, patience, craftsmanship, and legacy.

And this is exactly the type of access we chase.

Raw agave. Steam. Skid steers. Tons of tradition moving in real time.

Today I’m at La Tequileña Distillery, better known among tequila nerds as NOM 1146, watching thousands of pounds of freshly harvested agave being loaded into autoclaves. This is where transformation begins.

Behind every bottle of tequila is a process most people never see. Tequila doesn’t start in a fancy glass or on a back bar shelf.

It starts with agriculture. Hard work. Heat. Family legacy. Machinery. Time. And generations of knowledge.

People see the finished bottle.

I want you to see what happens before that.

This is the part I live for. Boots on the ground. Learning directly from the people making it happen. Getting beyond marketing and seeing tequila at its source.

You don’t accidentally end up inside wineries like this.

There’s no public tasting counter.
No tourist crowds.
No polished commercial wine experience.

Just vineyards, cellar doors, and relationships built over years.

On our recent Piedmont, Italy wine and gastronomy journey, Jamie and I brought our guests to Pico Maccario, where Gianluca himself guided us through the vineyards and winery for an incredibly personal behind the scenes experience.

This is one of the things that makes our trips different.

We don’t just visit wine regions.

We connect people directly with the families, winemakers, and stories behind the bottles.

At Pico Maccario, we walked through the vineyards discussing Barbera, terroir, harvest decisions, and the future of Piedmont wine while standing in the exact place it all begins.

Then we stepped into the cellar where tradition and modern innovation collide in one of the most exciting Barbera estates in Italy.

That’s the magic of relationship driven travel.

Not staged.
Not rushed.
Not surface level.

Real access.

And honestly, those are the moments guests remember forever.

One conversation.
One shared bottle.
One vineyard walk.

Suddenly a wine becomes tied to a place, a family, and a memory.

That’s exactly why Jamie and I continue building these chef led wine and gastronomy experiences around the world.

Our next scheduled departure heads to Catalonia, Spain later this October.

And for those looking for something more personal, we also design fully customized private experiences built around your dates, interests, and travel style.

This is what happens when you stop traveling like a tourist and start traveling like an insider. 🇮🇹🍷

Lunch at Calatroni Vini in Lombardy quickly turned into one of those magical moments that nobody wanted to end.

The wines kept flowing.

The food kept arriving.

Stories were shared.

Glasses were raised.

And somewhere between another pour and another plate, our entire group settled into the rhythm that Italy does so well.

Slow down.

Eat well.

Drink incredible wine.

Enjoy the people around you.

These are the moments Jamie and I obsess over creating with VIP Winery Vacations. Not rushed tastings. Not checking boxes. Real experiences with real people.

This is Italy.

And trust me… the camera never fully captures it.
