Hard to believe that today is the five year anniversary of the 2016 flood. I will always be in awe of the grit and sheer determination of this town. It truly is an incredible place, filled with special people. I hope you will continue to shop small this year and help these businesses prosper.

Donald Trump is responsible for the sickening events at the United States Capitol that I am watching. It is clear that his admirers need to take leave of the party of Lincoln and form a new political party called "The Anarchists' Party". No one should be fooled. There is nothing about Trump's lying behavior that is worthy of the term "conservative" or "patriotic".

I had the privilege of serving with Elijah Cummings in the House of Delegates prior to his election to Congress. His dignity and keen situational awareness propelled him to serve with nobility on a national stage.

In the aftermath of each devastating flood, Congressman Cummings was there for Ellicott City. My colleagues and I had no doubt that we could count on him to help our citizens in need at the federal level.

His leadership was not just limited to the work he did for his constituents. He was a patient mentor and friend to many of Maryland's leaders. I will always be grateful for his support during my last term as State Delegate and for having my back at a critical juncture during my tenure as Secretary of Transportation.

Please keep his family in your thoughts as they face this difficult time.

We were so lucky to have Ryan. Thank you for your service and good luck in whatever comes next!
