Next up in our trail feature series is the 400 State Trail, known for its beautiful river crossings and rural charm!

Named after the original "400" railway route, this 22-mile trail connects Elroy, Union Center, Wonewoc, La Valle, and Reedsburg. It offers a scenic ride filled with rolling farmlands, open pastures, diverse forests, and bridges over the winding Baraboo River.

The Route: The trail also connects directly to the Hillsboro State Trail near Union Center if you are looking to extend your ride.

Horse Trail: There is a 7-mile parallel horse trail located between Wonewoc and La Valle.

Trail Passes: Bikers ages 16 or older must purchase a state trail pass before using the trail.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful countryside ride or a multi-town adventure, the 400 State Trail is a perfect route to start right here from our Commons.

Have you explored the 400 State Trail? Tell us your favorite town or bridge to stop at along the way in the comments!

Next up in our trail feature series is the Omaha Trail, known for its incredible rock formations and river views!

Named for the original "Omaha Railway" train route, this 13-mile trail connects Elroy, Hustler, and Camp Douglas. It offers a unique ride through a wonderland of towering buttes, mesas, and pinnacles, with views of steep sandstone formations rising 100 to 200 feet high.

The Terrain: Maintained by Juneau County, this trail features a sealed surface built to be smoother than traditional gravel. (Just keep an eye out for a few cracks and potholes that have developed over the years!)

Trail Passes: Unlike some other local trails, the Omaha Trail requires a specific Omaha trail pass for bikers ages 18 and older.

Whether you are looking for a shorter scenic ride or want to marvel at some of our region's most unique geography, the Omaha Trail is a fantastic route to explore right from our Commons.

Have you biked the Omaha Trail yet? Let us know your favorite scenic spot along the way in the comments!

Over the next few days, we'll be featuring a different bike trail that passes right through our Commons!

First up is the historic Elroy-Sparta Trail, proudly known as "America's First Rail Trail." This scenic 32.5-mile route connects Elroy, Kendall, Wilton, Norwalk, and Sparta.

The Tunnels: The trail features three historic tunnels, ranging up to 3/4 of a mile long.

What to Pack: The tunnels are dark and cool, so flashlights and jackets are essential for your ride.

Trail Passes: Required for bikers ages 16 and older.

Scan the QR code on the flyer below to view the official DNR History and Story Map to plan your next ride.
