Cycling and disc golf are two sports that many Emporians enjoy. As home to the UNBOUND Gravel bicycle race and the Dynamic Discs Open disc golf tournament, Emporia has the resources to make your visit an adventure worth repeating. Located in the East Central edge of the Flint Hills, there are hundreds of miles of gravel roads in all directions from Emporia for cyclists to enjoy with family and friends or to train for gravel races. If disc golf is your game, we offer multiple 18-hole and three 9-hole courses. When you're off the roads and courses, Emporia has over two dozen locally-grown eateries to enjoy. Nightlife options include a brewery, a winery, a distillery, an Irish pub, a 6,000 square foot country dance bar and axe throwing. You are welcome here any time to ride, play, or just relax and enjoy!

A special afternoon of journalism, history, and conversation is coming to Emporia this Sunday.

The William Allen White Community Partnership will host internationally acclaimed journalist, producer, author, and Kansas native Bill Kurtis for “Bill Kurtis Talks Journalism” at the historic Granada Theatre on September 13 from 2–4 pm.

Hear stories from Kurtis’s remarkable career and his life reporting the news, with a conversation centered around Journalism and Kansas. His latest book, Whirlwind: My Life Reporting the News, will also be available for purchase from Middle Ground Books, with an opportunity to have it signed by Bill Kurtis.

Admission is free, with donations supporting the ongoing care and preservation of Red Rocks, the historic home of William Allen White.

Today, we remember the lives that were lost, the heroes who stepped forward, and the countless lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, the weight of that day is still felt by so many. Today, we pause to remember those we lost and honor the courage, sacrifice, and strength shown in the days that followed.

If you’re looking for a way to honor this day and reflect alongside others in our community, the 9-11 25 Year Commemoration will take place tonight at 6:30 pm. The evening will provide an opportunity to share memories and experiences from that day, followed by a solemn tribute with the twilight illumination of flags at American Legion Post #5.

There’s a lot happening around Emporia this weekend!

Kick things off Friday afternoon with Emporia State Women’s Soccer as the Hornets take on Colorado State Pueblo at 3 pm. Then later that evening, the community is invited to gather at 6:30 pm for the 9-11 25 Year Commemoration.

Saturday could easily turn into a full day downtown. Start by wandering through Emporia Main Street's Great American Market and see what you find. Antiques, artwork, collectibles, crafts, food, and plenty more will be filling Commercial Street. While you're already downtown, take some time to pop into a few local shops and grab lunch from a local restaurant or food truck. And if a mimosa sounds like a good addition to your market shopping, Mulready's Pub has Market and Mimosas going on throughout the day.

Then make your way over to Welch Stadium for the Emporia State Football home opener! 🖤💛 The Hornets take on Michigan Tech at 1 pm, and it’s Black Out Welch, so wear your black and help bring the energy for the first home game of the season.

Sunday is a good day to keep things a little more relaxed. Spend the afternoon at the Emporia Granada Theatre for Bill Kurtis Talks Journalism, then head over to the ESU Soccer Pitch to catch the Hornets take on Oklahoma Baptist at 1 pm.

Spend some time here, grab some local food, do a little shopping, and see where the weekend takes you.

Football is back in Emporia! This Saturday, September 12, the Emporia State Hornets take the field for their home opener against Michigan Tech at 1 pm. You have to love that first home-game feeling, and it’s a great reason to get out and show up for the Hornets.

It’s also a busy week for ESU Women’s Soccer, with two home games on the schedule. The Hornets take on Colorado State Pueblo on Friday, September 11, followed by Oklahoma Baptist on Monday, September 14.

Three home games, plenty of chances to cheer on the Hornets, and a great week to get out and be part of the energy around Emporia. 💛

Don’t miss Good Way Sunday this weekend!

Good Way Gardens is bringing the Good Way Sunday Concert Series back this Sunday, September 6, from 4–6 pm with The Fleeting Moments. And with the concert moved indoors, the music is still on!

Head to 225 E. 6th Ave. in Emporia for an afternoon of live music and community. Bring your friends, grab a chair, and enjoy a free, all-ages concert.

One more Good Way Sunday is coming up in October, so if you haven’t made it to the series yet, this weekend is a great time to check it out!
