Short holiday trip to utilize My husbands few vacation days in the best possible ways. A day for me and time for him tomorrow before flying home on the holiday.

Our flight was delayed this morning even though we booked an early flight. What do you do when this happens? You can log onto your airline app and
1. Rebook on a more sure flight combination or connection.
2. Ask why the flight is delayed and see what the crew thinks about how early you might arrive and check for seats on that next flight out to make sure if you miss the connection you will have options if it seems possible you might still make it.
3. Fly like the wind once you land to try and to make your connection.

We did a combo of 2 and 3 and luckily just made it.

While in the Big Easy we did a few tours. A general New Orleans tour, a night time walk in voodoo, vampires pirates and more, and a steam powered paddle wheel boat.

That day tour was so informative about Katrina and the city . It also allowed us to see quite a bit and hear a lot history. Learning about the above ground burial spots was also interesting. Visiting the Cafe Du Monde in the park allowed us to miss the lines we saw near Bourbon Street and we can confirm they blow away the Beignets at Cafe Beignet. We learned about the local drink and it's museum we later visited. Sazerac wasn't my thing but several of the samples at the museum were tasty. I hope they are right and they have taken all the steps they needed to in case another Katrina like event occurs. Seeing the garden district and many of the places they film shows was also a perk.

The night tour offered history of music, the evolution of the city, voodoo history there, stories of pirates, ghost history mostly relating to slavery, and historical events, plus things related to the vampire shows filmed there and just maybe a story of a historical one.

The paddle wheeler included local food options, jazz, and a day and night tour along the river. I think any of these tours would be good for the right people.

Stayed in New Orleans for 3 nights at the Royal Sonesta right on Bourbon Street. It was a good base to see what this area was all about. Please note there is construction going on during the day that was loud so we did not spend the time we thought we would at the pool. The pool had good Étouffée on fries and the drinks were good we just felt it was too noisy to converse or chill.

There were a few times where there were very few people as we walked Bourbon Street but as each day progressed the streets filled up and by the weekend you really had no space that was not full. Mardi Gras must be a wild time if this is low season.

We walked all over the area and sampled lots of Étouffée, gumbo, turtle soup, oysters, and of course drinks. The walking around with a large frozen drink takes a bit of getting used to but I am sure we managed.

The red dresses are for the red dress run that happened the day we departed. Our friend's flight was pushed a day and they said all of Bourbon Street was a sea of red and packed Saturday night.

New Orleans offers lots of food and entertainment options. Our guide during our day tour told us about Killer Poboys which was a hit and about Felix's for oysters which our friend said was excellent after finishing his serious bloody mary that also had an oyster.

We had a great brunch at Two Sisters on Bourbon Street. Sit inside or in the cutest courtyard. Enjoy the jazz music or enjoy them serenading the birthday girl like we did. The options were varied and other than the eggs Benedict,that was lackluster, they were quite good and offered lots of local options. Our service was wonderful.

We walked to Cafe Negril for our favorite vibe and to hear a live band. They are well known in the area for their live music.

Did you know Nasville had a Parthenon? We walked there and Used Lyft back to the hotel. The giant gold plated statue of Athena holding Nike that seems small but is about my husband's size was quite impressive. I liked they explained the changes from a world fair to a permanent installation as well as how they took some liberties when it came to design. Most of the sculptures were done by a husband and wife team.

We also saw some great information and tributes to Tennessee women who were part of the Suffragettes movement. On the way we walked by the Campus of Vanderbilt that really showed the Character of days past.

Our friends spent the official birthday day shopping at 12 South and had to have their new boots shipped home. They tried out the driverless Waymo taxi and said it was a positive experience. I think they were more adventurous than us who were not ready for that yet.

No Nashville trip would be complete without visiting Broadway and Printers Alley. We took a Lyft there and back from the W Nashville. The center of Broadway was closed off for blocks for a celebration with bands and vendors. There are shops, bars, dining and entertainment of most any flavor here. It felt a bit like the Vegas strip.

We found a margarita flight, plenty of live music and entertainment, and of course food and shopping. We saw several of the pedal bars go by as we checked out the area.

We spent about half a week in Nashville to celebrate at a friend's milestone birthday. Home base was the W Nashville located in the Gulch. It had multiple dining, entertainment, and bar areas. A nice outdoor pool and modern rooms with an open bathroom you could close off. Live entertainment some notes and a definite musical base made the W even better.

There were lots of options for food and entertainment within walking distance. Quite a few of the city's murals were nearby as well. The Gulch area felt very safe to explore. We had brunch at Adele's. Meals at the Pub around the corner, a sports bar, and Marsh House as well as trying out what the hotel had to offer.

We found a self pour pay by the ounce bar that allowef us to sample lots of options. We found most of the bars and food options within walking distance to be varied and fun.
