A volunteer writes: Shelly is the type of dog that pulls on your heartstrings. I saw her coming to the Care Center, shaking like a leaf with her tail between her legs. Later on, she could be seen laying at the back of her kennel, sometimes, emitting a soft growl. I fed Shelly treats without taking her out. She needed to feel that some people cared after the ordeal she went through. I decided today that Shelly was ready for a walk. She has a silly face. She reminds me of a kid hastily eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the jelly falling out of one side of her mouth. Shelly is petite and beautiful. She had puppies not that long ago. Her coat is intact and shiny jet black with a stream of white dividing her face and chest. She has a healthy weight. Shelly came willingly out of her den. She was still shaking a bit but, little by little, as we walked down the street, her tail came up . She looked slightly more confident. It was rather cold outside. To make her comfortable, we sat in the garage on a blankie. Shelly came closer and closer to me and ended up between my legs, her head facing me. She started giving kisses as I was petting her. Later on, I came back to Shelly for a second walk. The shy and scared girl came this time to her gait.... She wanted out and company. Shelly is an endearing little girl. She is at the Manhattan Care Center. She is so worth giving a chance to, a chance to be a pet and loved.

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on adopting, please visit our website: urgentdeathrowdogs.org and click on “How You Can Help.” There are also helpful links with information on each main album description.
