Travel gives us perspective. In February my girlfriends and I visited Puerto Vallarta. The locals were so welcoming. While taking Ubers, we would pepper our drivers with questions. One driver said he loved the United States and legally lived there. He decided to return to PV because he was afraid of radomnly getting deported. Three days after we arrived home, the entire city experienced a violent disruption when "El Mencho" was killed.

And yet, we witnessed stunning scenery on a guided, coastline hike. During a biologist-led whale excursion, we watched, with jaws dropped, as a male whale repeatedly thrashed its tale against the water to mark its territory.

Sometimes we forget that even in the most beautiful places we visit, people suffer. What travel memory gave you perspective?

Anyone glued to the Olympics? This just came from a client who stayed in Cortina last summer!

Patty - I hope this note finds you well. I appreciate getting your emails from time to time on trip opportunities. I read them!

I thought of you b/c two nights ago I was watching CNN and one of their reporters was covering the Olympics from the balcony of the hotel/looked like our exact room - in Cortina! It's been so much fun to see Cortina covered - it is such a gorgeous place. And it got me thinking about the awesome hotel you booked for us (and room!) - I can't imagine how much it is for these few weeks. It's such a special place in the Dolomites. I hope you can visit sometime.

Anyway - thought you'd chuckle at the story. She was doing a live shot right from our balcony - as I recognized it immediately!
