White House to lift Covid testing requirement for international travel

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is lifting its requirement that international air travelers to the U.S. take a COVID-19 test within a day before boarding their flights, easing one of the last remaining government mandates meant to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

A senior administration official said the mandate expires Sunday at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time, saying the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that it's no longer necessary.

The official, speaking Friday on the condition of anonymity to preview the formal announcement, said that the agency would reevaluate the need for the testing requirement every 90 days and that it could be reinstated if a troubling new variant emerges.

New Study Finds Travel Agents Save Consumers an Average of $452 Per Trip

– New research from ASTA.org proves that travel agents save consumers time and money. Consumers report that travel agents save them an average $452 per trip, and four hours in travel planning. Perhaps most importantly, consumers said that agents help them avoid costly mistakes.

"We couldn't hold back the good news, and that is that travel agent usage is at its highest level since we began commissioning independent consumer research three years ago. At this point, consumers have tried it all. They've booked online, they've gone direct, and they've used a travel agent. This study dispels the myth that booking direct with suppliers or spending hours online yourself gets you a better deal, or gives you a happier travel experience. Consumers told TNS Global that if you want a better travel experience, use an agent," said ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby.

Please see below and refer to our Frequently Asked Questions to understand how coverage applies related to COVID-19.

Coverage Details:
If an insured or Traveling Companion contracts the Coronavirus or is physically quarantined while coverage is in effect, they are eligible for trip cancellation/trip interruption coverage. The sickness or quarantine must be certified by a physician at the time of cancellation/interruption.

Trip delay can provide coverage for any additional expenses incurred, such as hotel and meals, if the insured has been asked by a physician to quarantine while on a trip which results in a delay of trip.

An insured is also eligible for Emergency Medical/Evacuation coverage if the insured contracts the coronavirus while traveling.

It is important to note that fear of travel, travel advisories and destination being inaccessible due to this illness are not covered risks under the Travelex Insurance plans. However, insureds are still eligible for Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage in the event they are prevented from taking their trip due to one of the other reasons listed in their Travelex plan.

Plans where the Cancel for Any Reason upgrade has been purchased allows the insured to decide for themselves whether to travel or cancel their trip according to the terms of the plan.

Travel advisors should contact the airlines, cruise and tour operators and other suppliers to consider your options to change travel arrangements with the ability to waive or reduce penalties.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
While being unvaccinated won’t bar homebound Americans from re-entering the States, the uninoculated will face tighter testing parameters than they currently do. These individuals will be required to present negative results from a COVID-19 test performed within just 24 hours of boarding their flight, rather than 72, and will also need to prove that they’ve purchased a viral test to take after their arrival in the U.S.

IF YOU HAVE A VALID PASSPORT YOU DO NOT NEED TO EVER SPEND MONEY ON REAL ID TO TRAVEL either in US or internationally. Save your $35.00!! Also deadline has been pushed back AGAIN please see below.

The United States Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday announced that the DHS was extending the REAL ID full enforcement date by 19 months, from Oct. 1, 2021, until May 3, 2023, because of the impact of COVID-19 on the enforcement.

The news means that most Americans who want to travel domestically on an airplane without a passport or enhanced driver’s license will be able to do so until at least May 2023.

After that, every air traveler 18-years or older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, a state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or a passport in order to get through TSA security checkpoints for domestic travel.
