A hike to lower Calf Creek Falls is an opportunity for multiple experiences 🙌 The trail head is found at the Calf Creek campground just fifteen miles east of the town of Escalante on Scenic Byway 12. The Calf Creek Falls hike is approximately 2.5 miles (each direction) and winds it way on a relatively flat course through a long section of canyon until the canyon ends abruptly at the falls which rise 126 feet above the canyon floor.

Who has taken a dip in this pool of water before? 🙋‍♂️ 🙋‍♀️

Have you ever driven over Hell's Backbone and looked down into Box-Death Hollow? It's living on the edge in it's most beautiful form. Hell's Backbone is one of those particular roads that help define the wild west. This scenic byway was built in 1933 by Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps to help the country during its toughest economic challenge, known to us as The Great Depression. The road itself is awe inspiring to say the least. Trying to wrap your head around the amount of work that went into this road is mind-blowing. Machinery at the time of construction was robust but rudimentary in today's standards. Shovels and picks and good old fashioned manual labor helped carve this masterpiece we call Hell's Backbone. Junipers, sage, and pine co-mingled against layers of sedimentary rock formations tell million-year-old stories.
