Andalusia, SPAIN—-Hike. Climb. Repeat.
Caminito del Rey is a reminder that when you’re in Spain, drive. Rent a car, hire a private driver, or hop on a bus for a day trip—but get out of the cities. There is so much more to see once you head into the countryside.
Originally built in the early 1900s to allow workers access to a hydroelectric plant, Caminito del Rey earned its nickname as “the world’s most dangerous walkway” before being fully restored and reopened in 2015. Today, it’s a spectacular (and safe!) path clinging to dramatic limestone cliffs above the Guadalhorce River.
The hike delivers jaw-dropping scenery at every turn—sheer rock walls, narrow catwalks, and sweeping canyon views that make you pause more than once just to take it all in. Pictures don’t do it justice.
We wrapped up in El Chorro, grabbing our backpacks and climbing gear before heading out again—this time trading hiking boots for harnesses and continuing the adventure on the rock. Spain, a little out of the city, is pure magic.
