As you travel rural eastern Hamlin County, you might come across a bear and think you made the wrong turn and found yourself in Bear Country.
South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks is aware of the bear and its travels. Remember, it is rare to see a bear in this part of the country, so observe it from a distance and never approach. Those in eastern Hamlin County are asked to put away food items such as garbage, birdseed, or other potential outdoor food sources. Please be mindful of pets and children who are outside, and be aware of your surroundings. You don't need to report the bear sighting because the bear will continue its travel and leave the area.
