A WILDNESS UNSEEN

The rugged valleys in the undisturbed corners of Rocky rest in isolation year after year. Here, the rare human visitor is rewarded with abundant wild beauty, unmatched solitude, and a glimpse into a wildness unseen.

Untamed by man, evolutionary processes continue to unfold, winds carry only natures wild chorus, and the diversity of life is fully expressed. To experience an ecosystem in its primeval character, will forever tug at the wildness within oneself.

"Only in what remains of Eden, teeming with life forms independent of us, is it possible to experience the kind of wonder that shapes the human psyche at its birth." – Edward O. Wilson

Another year of solitude and adventure in the beautifully remote corners of Rocky. Season after season, we have been privileged to experience wildness and remain thankful to those that had the foresight to protect this wild place.

"Great many wild places of Earth I have not visited, and never shall be able to, but I have known some of them intimately, with delight, and thus claim citizenship of all the wild place of all the states and nations of all the continents and seas. From citizenship comes responsibility to care." – David Brower

FLOWER OF FIRE

Every member of the biotic community has a story to tell, and the story of Fireweed often begins with a single lightning strike. In Rocky Mountain National Park, our fire-adapted ecosystems have burned, regrown, and burned again for thousands of years following seasonal storms. Throughout time, large, stand replacing fires have always been a natural part of our historical fire regime.

After a fire moves through, the land is ready for life to reemerge. Fireweed quickly colonizes the mountainsides, thriving in areas with significant canopy cover loss (high-severity burn areas) while helping stabilize soils, recycle nutrients and feed local fauna.

This pioneer species disperses widely in early-stage successional forests but its presence will slowly fade as the canopy fills in through the decades. Its seeds and beauty will rest in the soil until the next major forest disturbance brings them back.

Join us this summer to explore this beautiful moment in time, where the bright colors of wildflowers like fireweed contrast the blackened landscape of Rocky's burn areas. Let us share the stories of the wild!

LET'S PACKRAFT

We're excited to open our packrafting services for the season! This year we'll continue to offer a variety of guided trips and rental options in the Greater Rocky Mountain National Park area.

We'll also have lightweight tandem packrafts available, expanding access for groups of varied skill levels to explore deeper. We can't wait to spend the summer paddling together, witnessing shooting stars and breathtaking sunsets, and seeing all of the places you take our rentals.

As the lakes thaw, the park offers endless opportunities for one-of-a-kind paddling adventures. Experience a new perspective this year by joining a guided trip or by hiking our lightweight packrafts to a remote lake!

COURAGE TO EXPLORE

In every season and on all trip sizes, our clients continually leap into the unknown, embracing adventure with courage. To frequently witness this strength of the human spirit, this boldness to dream big and willingness to face failure, has easily become one of the most unexpectedly meaningful and inspiring parts of this profession.

"Anything you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it." – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

✌️SPOTS OPEN

We have two spots available on a wild five-day backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park this July.

Our rugged multi-day adventures are almost exclusively off-trail, leading you through the most remote and least-visit wildlands of the park. By bushwhacking through dense valleys, scrambling across steep mountain passes, encountering wildlife, and enjoying true solitude, you'll challenge yourself and find a deeper connection this place.

We'll traverse the landscape at a pace that's suitable for all skill levels (although it's still a very strenuous journey) and dive deep into a fun, educational wilderness experience. Please DM/email us if you're interested in more details.

Let us lead you into adventure this summer!

As Rocky Mountain National Park celebrates another year of protection, we reflect on how this wild space has shaped our lives and inspired us to become better defenders of the things we love.

How has Rocky inspired you?

"The idea of wilderness needs no defense, it only needs more defenders. Remaining silent about the destruction of nature is an endorsement of that destruction." -Ed Abbey

THESE MOMENTS

These moments of solitude and silence, of community and isolation, of wild beauty – they continuously drift through these mountains for those that immerse themselves in the wild.

As the monsoons of summer slowly fade, our memories of this season will live in us long after each adventure has ended.

And as the transition to autumn unfolds, we'll be in the wilderness, reconnecting to the wild and immersing ourselves in the moments to come.

"By journeying to places we awaken and reinvigorate the Earth, which returns this to us. A place within a landscape corresponds to a place within the heart." – Václav Cílek
