Fresh local seafood is back in Old Town. Humboldt's Dockside Market opens for the season Saturday, June 6.

This is about as direct as local seafood gets. Every Saturday from 9am to 1pm (or until they sell out), Humboldt fisher folk set up at Madaket Plaza in the heart of Old Town and sell the freshest local catch. Not sure how to break down a whole fish? The free on-site filet station will take care of the dirty work for you. Need ideas for dinner? Stop by the manager's table to flip through recipe books, or just ask the vendors how they like to cook their own catch.

CalFresh/EBT gladly accepted. Come hungry, come curious, and come early before the good stuff sells out.

It's here.

Forest Moon Festival kicks off tonight with an opening night screening of A Disturbance in the Force at the Redwood Coast Museum of Cinema, with producer Kyle Newman in attendance for a Q&A. From there, the next four days turn Humboldt back into the Endor of your dreams: Friday brings a Forest Moon takeover of Friday Night Market in Old Town. Saturday is the big day with a free Star Wars panel at Sequoia Park, a free outdoor screening of Return of the Jedi under the redwoods, and Forest Fest at Sequoia Park Zoo for the 21+ crowd. Sunday closes with a pancake breakfast and a screening of Spaceballs in honor of Mel Brooks' 100th birthday.

There's a passport game, a scavenger hunt, and participating businesses across the county all weekend. Whether you're a hardcore fan or just curious about the Humboldt-shot scenes that have lived rent-free in everyone's head since 1983, this is the one.

It might still be May, but the 4th of July in Eureka is worth planning for now.

This year is a big one: July 4th falls on a Saturday, which means a built-in long weekend. The annual Old Town Street Fair takes over five blocks of 2nd Street with food, local vendors, live music, classic cars, kids' activities, and a whole lot of community, all capped off with fireworks over Humboldt Bay after dark.

If you've been thinking about a Humboldt trip this summer, this is a good weekend to build around. Drive up the coast, book a couple of nights, and give yourself time to wander the redwoods, the bay, and Old Town without rushing. Lodging tends to fill up for the holiday weekend, so it's worth booking early.

More details on this year's programming as we get closer. For now, save the date.

Friday Night Market is back in Old Town tonight, and the timing couldn't be better. It's Kinetic weekend in Eureka!

Head to 2nd Street between D and G from 5:30–8:30pm for art and crafts, food vendors, live music, and good company. Two stages going: Young and Lovely Jazz at the Crab Stage (2nd & G) and Bandemonium over at the Clark Plaza Stage (3rd & E). This week's theme leans into the weekend ahead: Kinetic Universe, For the Glory.

Speaking of which: this Sunday, the Kinetic Grand Championship rolls through Eureka. The 57th annual human-powered art sculpture race covers 50 miles between Arcata and Ferndale over Memorial Day weekend, and Sunday is the Eureka leg. Heads up, the water crossing has changed this year: sculptures enter the bay under the Samoa Bridge between 9:07 and 11:07am and exit at the Wharfinger Public Boat Ramp. Find a spot along the water, bring snacks, and stay a while. It's the best free spectator sport of the year.

Market tonight, Kinetic tomorrow, and plenty of Eureka and Old Town in between to eat, shop, and wander. Not a bad way to spend a weekend in Eureka.

A little housekeeping for tonight: no outside alcohol, no smoking, and no dogs within the event footprint, per City of Eureka ordinance.

If you've heard of Humboldt, you've probably heard about its cannabis.

The Emerald Triangle (Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity counties) has been one of the most storied cannabis-growing regions in the world for decades. The combination of coastal fog, sun, soil, and a generations-deep community of small farmers has produced cannabis that became legendary long before legalization. That history runs through everyday life here, and Eureka is a good place to experience it.

The city is home to a handful of thoughtful, locally-owned dispensaries that reflect the region's craft cannabis culture. EcoCann on F Street in Old Town, MOCA Humboldt and Mr. Humboldt both on 4th Street downtown, and Kiskanu a little further up 4th, where you can actually watch indoor cultivation happening while you shop. Each shop has its own personality, and the people working in them tend to know their product deeply because many of them are connected to the growers themselves. Ask questions, you'll learn something.

A friendly reminder for visitors: cannabis is legal in California for adults 21+, but consumption in public spaces, including the boardwalk, isn't allowed. Dispensaries take cash or debit, and first-time visitors often get a discount.

For anyone curious about what makes Humboldt's cannabis culture different from anywhere else, the answer is in the land, the people who farm it, and the shops that carry it forward. Worth a stop on any trip up here.

Less than two weeks until Humboldt becomes the Endor of your dreams.

The Forest Moon Festival is back May 28–31, four days celebrating this region's legendary connection to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which was filmed in Humboldt redwoods in 1982. The full schedule is live and it's a good one.

Thursday kicks off with an opening night screening of A Disturbance in the Force at the Redwood Coast Museum of Cinema with producer Kyle Newman in attendance. Friday brings a Forest Moon takeover of Friday Night Market in Old Town. Saturday is the big day: a free Star Wars panel at Sequoia Park with an actual Return of the Jedi Ewok performer, a free outdoor screening of Return of the Jedi under the redwoods, and Forest Fest at Sequoia Park Zoo for the 21+ crowd with brews, bites, and the Redwood Sky Walk at twilight. Sunday closes with a pancake breakfast and a screening of Spaceballs in honor of Mel Brooks' 100th birthday.

There's also a passport game, scavenger hunt, and participating businesses across the county all weekend.
