Ta Prohm is one of the most famous temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It is often called the “Jungle Temple” because huge tree roots and jungle vegetation grow over the ancient stone green ruins, creating a mysterious and beautiful atmosphere.
The temple was built in 1186 by Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Buddhist monastery and university. Originally, it was called “Rajavihara,” meaning “Royal Monastery,” and it was dedicated to the king’s mother.
