We spotted 25 Swallowtail Kite this morning on Turner River!! These birds migrate here all the way from South America. We typically only see one or two of them together. However, before they make their journey home, they flock together like this and fly back as a group.  They’ll be back here in mid February.

If you’ve been out with us on a Kayak tour, you may have seen the giant Osprey nest on Turner River. I’ve watched this nest for the last 10 years. Osprey’s mate for life and return to the same nest every year.

During a severe thunderstorm last night, it was struck by lightning and collapsed into the we discovered it early this morning…still smoldering.

Hopefully when the ospreys return in the fall, they can rebuild on a nearby tree. We shall see…
