Government Shutdown/Hurricane Irma Impact
The marine areas and campsites in Everglades National Park remained OPEN during the January government shutdown. This included the kayak ramp, parking lot and beach campsites around Everglades City. We continued to operate all of our scheduled kayak camping tours with no cancellations.
The park also reopened in December after hurricane Irma. Although there remains some visible damage in Everglades City, there was NO DAMAGE to the Everglades itself. Hurricanes are a normal and recurring park of the natural ecosystem. The mangroves, birds and sea life have no problem at all with the effects of hurricanes. We are running all kayak camping tours and seeing abundant wildlife every day!
The canoe/kayak access, overnight parking lot and a temporary visitor center in Everglades City are open. You can click on the map below to check the current status of backcountry campsites.
