Some people deserve a parade. We're starting with a Facebook post.

Meet Joan and Jim Salts. Two of those wonderful Fairfield people who just keep showing up and making good things happen.

If you've ever enjoyed a visit to the Official Maasdam Barns , chances are you've benefited from something these two have done. From keeping the barns in shape and welcoming visitors to tracking down museum treasures and helping behind the scenes, Joan and Jim are the kind of volunteers who make you wonder how anything ever got done without them.

Last night, Visit Fairfield had the pleasure of presenting them with the 2026 Maasdam Barns Workhorse Award. And if you've ever met these two, you know the name fits.

Fairfield is a better place because of people like Joan and Jim. And we think that's worth making a little noise about.

Help us give them the standing ovation they deserve!

34 cigar manufacturers. In Fairfield, Iowa. Seriously. 🚬

Turns out, Fairfield's entrepreneurial spirit goes back a long way. And some of the stories are pretty surprising.

We've just added six new interpretive signs at the Carnegie Museum, sharing the stories of businesses that helped shape Fairfield, from familiar names to some you probably never knew existed. And even if you know about some of these businesses, knowing the stories behind it is where things get interesting.

The research behind these signs was conducted by Visit Fairfield's summer interns as part of our America 250 celebration.

Next time you're at the Carnegie Museum, get curious and take a closer look.

Fairfield Fall Trail Ride, Oct 24 | 11am-2pm
Once a year the Fairfield looop Trail is opened up for vehicle traffic. This year the Fall ride starts at the Cedar View Trailhead off of South 32nd. Load up the kids, the dog, and grandma for this special perspective of the Loop Trail.

What’s the big deal about Fairfield, Iowa? Well for one thing, it’s a place where rained-out festival goers watch wiener dog races on the town square. It’s a place that houses Iowa’s Top Private High School (Maharishi School). It's a place where “traffic” means getting stuck behind a tractor. And it’s a place where you don’t have to plan anything and still somehow fill the weekend.
