Tuesday, November 11 is Veterans Day in the U.S. and Europe. Originally called Armistice Day, it began as an occasion to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in their country’s service. It falls on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. In 1954, the name of the holiday was changed from “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” in order to recognize veterans of all wars. We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. It’s an important day to show appreciation. The City of Fairhope celebrates its military veterans with a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 9. The parade starts at 10 a.m. from the Fairhope Civic Center, featuring local veterans’ organizations, military vehicles, as well as the Fairhope High School Band and Daphne High School ROTC.

The Baldwin Prep Academy is up-and-running for this school year! This new vocational-learning and specialized school in Loxley, AL is considered the new “future of education”. At the Preparatory Academy, rigorous learning and on-the-job experience are integrated in their state of the art building designed for career immersion. Students work in their career specific environments, and the school features classrooms configured like dental and physician clinics, a wing modeled to look like a hair and nail salon for cosmetology students, and garages for classes involving welding and automotive repair.
