Our team recently embarked on a day trip to the historic Elkview Masonic Cemetery/Holly Cross Cemetery in Harrison County, WV. We captured several photographs of the location. Notably, we both reported seeing a man walking at different times, but he disappeared upon mentioning it to each other. By the end of our visit, it seemed we were alone. We chose to disregard the incident. We are seeking information about the site and have learned that ownership disputes among the possible three separate graveyards on one plot of land have led to damage to headstones and property, raising questions about restoration responsibilities. Last summer, a concert was held to raise funds. Interested parties in preserving this historical site should contact Elkview Masonic Cemetery personnel. Our exploration revealed graves of Union soldiers and multiple veterans from the Revolution to the present, as well as local Republicans who served office during the Industrial Revolution of the early 20th century.
