One year ago, a living piece of history took root in Fairmont. 🌳

May 29 marks the one year anniversary of the Anne Frank Tree sapling being planted at Fairmont High School. This special tree is descended from the chestnut tree Anne Frank wrote about in her diary and is part of the Anne Frank Center, USA’s Sapling Project.

The tree came to Fairmont thanks to Natalie Flaherty and her mission to spread kindness, inclusion, and stand up against hate. Natalie’s work is now being recognized nationally in the June 2026 issue and the special 80th-birthday edition of Highlights magazine.

Stop by the Fairmont High School to see this special piece of history growing right here in Fairmont. It is one of only 20 Anne Frank Tree saplings planted across the United States. 💙
